Hi!

My family and I have been in Thailand for a few years now on appropriate non-imm visas. My husband recently changed employers in January when we returned from a uk holiday.

We arrived without a visa (just a 30 day exemption) with the promise his new employers will help is get the non-imm and work permit.

It is now March and they still haven't sorted out all the paperwork! Every month they have said that it will be sorted then when the date comes for when we have to leave, they come up with nothing.

Now this of course is very infuriating and they clearly haven't got a clue about visas and what to do.

I would like to know a few things please...

1) we have had 3 consecutive visa exemptions already...are we able to get another one? is there a limit to how many you can get consecutively?

2) is it true you can now get 30 day exemption stamp from a land border? If so we would prefer to drive to Laos/Cambodia and come back again the same day

3) are the land borders open at weekends?

LOPBURI on thaivisa always appears very knowledgeable, I would really appreciate your input on this! :) Thank you so much in advance for any replys.

There are no official limits.

Uk Passport holders will get 30 days entry at a land border.

Land borders open every day.

Working on Visa Exempt Entries and also no Work Permit is illegal and can get him in big trouble.

If you are from a G7 country you will get a 30 day entry at a border crossing otherwise it will be 15 days.

There is no limit on vise exempt entries by air. Some border crossings limit them to 3 or 4 entries.

It might be better to get a single entry tourist visa rather than keep making trips out and back. A single entry would give a you a 60 day entry that can be extended for 30 days. A good location is Vientiane Laos where you can get a 2 entry visa. You apply the morning of one day and pick it up the next day.

As far as I know, a visa waiver cannot be converted into a work visa (not the correct name, but you know what I mean). Your husband has to enter Thailand on a visa to get permission to stay based on work.

In certain cases it is possible to do a conversion to a non immigrant visa entry based upon being qualified to obtain an extension of stay for working.

It is also possible to apply for a work permit with one also then go out for a non-b visa.

This is not accurate information.

In a number of instances it is possible to "convert" to an "O" visa entry for work, marriage and retirement.

Hi, Thankyou all for the info.

I've just received an email from Thai visa containing an article that says there is a clamp down on visa runs!

Will this change things now? It says that they are going back to 15 days again.

I have had tourist visas in the past on my old passport. I'm not sure I can apply for more.

Do you think I would be able to try for a tourist visa again on my new passport that doesn't contain any tourist visa stamps? Or will they be able to find out I have had tourist visas before?

Thanks again.

You will have no problem getting a tourist visa.

It is unknown what it going to be the true policy change is going to be for visa exempt entries. It has not been finalized or been made official yet.

The article is speculative and nothing "official" has been announced.

A single entry tourist visa can be obtained and maybe a double entry. It might help if you can show a legal source of funds.
