Bringing supplies from UK for new baby

Featured Replies

I was wondering if there is anything I should buy in UK before coming to Thailand either because of difficulty buying in Thailand, the quality or price.

Thanks.

Majority of the baby stuff in Thailand is way way way overpriced, push chairs, car seats, bottles etc etc and what you do find is of poor quality clothes included. Compare mothercare Thailand to mothercare uk. There is baby best buy show at queen sirikit in Bangkok some things are reasonable worth a visit if only to see what is available all in one place.

Travel system /buggy or car seat if you plan to use one. Our cost be 200quid (ish) compared to THB45000!!!

Baby bottles, they are supercheap in Tesco etc... here a pack of 3 will cost you about THB1200 YES i know you can find cheaper, but that was the brand we wanted and our baby wouldnt take to any other.

Baby grows, really good soft ones from M&S or Tesco/Asda cost be a few quid for a pack of 3 - here THB600 EACH for similar quality.

This, no doubt, will start a flame war if you would like any other advice you can PM me. I will also tell you what we got that was a waste of money!

Oh yeah, SUDOCREAM you cant get it here

Cheers for the suggestions, I didn't bring Marmite. I brought the baby grows, socks, and other clothes I recieved at Christmas from mothercare. The babygrows were £15 for pack of 5 but from the outlet I think 50% or less. The pushchairs here look homemade from water pipes and other bits of plastic but I guess I will be stuck with that as I did not bring one.

Babies here seem to be carried on the arm or front of motorbike maybe to keep them aware like not cleaning anything makes the baby strong.

Since I've been here I've only managed to buy a bath and some nappies, still looking for a bed of some sort.

Mate dont worry about the bed, most Thai mothers i know (my wife included) insist on having the little one in the bed with them......

Mate, have a read though this ... discussed only a few months ago ... what-should-parents-bring-from-england-for-newborn

I bought over (from Australia ... but it's a UK product) an Avent Bottle Steamer ... microwavable. Bought it 2nd hand in Oz for less then 10 quid.

A458390.jpg

We use it every day ... weighs nothing, so won't add too much to the luggage weight.

As mentioned certain items can be very expensive in Thailand compared to UK.

But I really can't think of anything I would have really wanted bringing from UK, except of course a baby version of local sports kits and anything else sentimental....

I also bought over some Avent Bottles and a variety of nipples ... again, second hand ... but the teats were new.

The teats have different flow rates. # 1, 2, 3 and 4

There is a Pigeon Brand over here, but the babies don't like the nipple shape as well as the Avent ones.

Bought some cloth nappies as well. They haven't been used as such, but for blankets, wind breaks, shoulder throws for when the bub chucks .. great. Of course they have that here ... but the ones we bought @ TESCO are small and lightweight and fray easily.

We bought a baby rocker here (Thailand) ... great and cheap.

When someone mentioned "baby grows" I imagined a bag full of fertilizer that you plant the baby in and leave it for a few months. I'll get my coat...

I have now bought a pushchair for our newborn that arrived on saturday. Just taken him out for his first walk and one of the 8 wheels is already wonky.

He was only 2.6kg so all of the newborn clothes from UK are way too big as they fit up to 4.5kg. The expensive thai bought ones fit even worse but we'll try to fatten him up a bit.

The bed does seem to be not needed at he is sleeping with us.

I bought another brand here for 1200฿ and then saw Aldi are selling Agent ones for £2 this week, so I am going back to UK for 1.
