hey all,

so the apartment block i live in is pretty much a death trap. its old with no fire alarms or sprinklers or anything at all. Im trying my best to find myself a decent fire alarm for my room which is wired to one out side- so at least ill be able to have some time to find a way out in the event of a fire. I also want a rope ladder than i can attach to my balcony.

Ive had a look and cant find any of these... any one know where i can get them in bangkok? thinking i could get a metal rope ladder made somewhere- know any places?

any fire safety shops or anything about in bangkok?

cheers!

PS- its my gfs apartment and she refuses to move.... so that is not an option at the moment :(

how high up are you ?

by the sounds of things you need some smoke detectors and fire extingishers, fireblanket, if your really paranoid get some smoke hoods, most of the bigger DIY shops...home-pro, global etc will have smoke detectors/extingishers/fire blankets, but not aware of fire safety shops in Thailand per se.

Whatever Meds your on they aint working.......you tink too mutt, mai pen rai.w00t.gif

Safety shop, Thailand....cheesy.gif

Seriously though, Homepro will have basic stuff, smoke detector and fire extinguisher,

9th floor, might be better and easier looking for a parachute ?w00t.gif

We are on the 9th floor... hence my concern :-/

Maybe try this crowd, what your looking for is the similar to the orange one the lady has got on in the photo

The rest of the stuff, ie smoke detectors, extingishers, fire blankets you should be able to find are the large DIY places eg Home pro etc...they do have them.

Unless your Ex-SAS, dont think you will want to be coming down from the 9th floor on an escape rope or ladder...biggrin.png

My advice is plan you routes out the place and walk physically walk out the route out, make sure fire doors are not locked etc combined with a decent smokehood is most likely a better option than going off your balcony on a rope..thumbsup.gif

Not sure what you mean by "which is wired to one out side". By fire alarm do you mean smoke detector? HomePro has them. But they're not worth much unless every unit in the building has one, and even then you'd probably not be able to hear it going off unless you're right next door.

As for rope ladders, they're easy to make. Both natural fiver and vinyl ropes are available at all most every mom & pop hardware shop. Cut up a few dozen hardwood planks and drill holes into each end and voilà‎:

If you're not interested in DIY solutions, then ebay is probably your best bet.

[edit] I just saw that you're on the 9th floor. Forget the rope ladder. Maybe just one 30 meter rope, knotted every half meter or so.

If you're that concerned, just move, no need to actually live with the GF, just visiting would probably be even better.
