UK Visitor Visa - Bank Statements always required ?

Featured Replies

Hi all. A simple query - I realise that all Settlement Visa applications require the inclusion of 6 Months bank statements from the UK partner, since proof of ongoing Long-Term solvency are needed. But when applying for a short (under 1 month) Visitor Visa, would it be enough to show easy-access Savings (of over £10k), and leave out the bank statements ? Has anyone actually done this and got the visa ? Thanks in advance.

Whoever is paying for or contributing towards the costs of the trip needs to show that they have the funds to do so.

If you have multiple accounts and one of them on it's own does this, then that should be ok.

They do specify, in the instructions to ECO's, that a bank pass book is acceptable in respect of Settlement Visas, so I don't see why they shouldn't for visit visas.

To be safe I would be inclined to say why you are submitting a pass book rather than statements, to allay any concerns the ECO might have as to why you are choosing to "leave out the bank statements".

Thanks to both for the replies. I'm not really familiar with a 'bank pass book' - maybe it's not something used by British banks - building societies yes. The source of money i was thinking of showing is simply an easy-access savings account (Virgin) with a significant sum in it. Mmmm - as to explaining why i wouldn't be showing 'bank statements' i can't imagine what to say - certainly not the truth which is that i really hate government officers knowing every detail of my financial life.

If you have nothing to hide it should be of no concern.

It is incumbent upon you to satisfy the criteria that an ECO is looking for. If your partners application fails because you have held something back you will find little sympathy here.

I showed a Premium Bond statement to (comfortably) cover the projected cost of the one month holiday and I also included a bank statement showing a regular source of income - i didn't need to but I wanted to make sure that the application was successful. .

Put your paranoia to one side and focus on a successful outcome for the application.

My gf obtained a visitor's visa last year with a statement from a savings account and nothing more (in the way of financial documents)
