grumpyoldman
Mid week last week I could not believe how empty 200 year road was. Is anyone else noticing a huge decrease in people here? Just too hot? No alcohol weekends? Tonight and next week too yes? Don't remember a March this quiet....

(the crowd yells "how hot is it"!) -it's so hot it even makes Mitt Romney look cool -it's so hot, the sand at Patong Beach has become glass -it's so hot the Jehovah's Witnesses have turned to telemarketing Fingers crossed for the rain they are saying is suppose to be here next week. keestha
For the moment, the high tourism season seems to finish a bit early this year. Very much of the traffic in Phuket is tourism related.

I'm thinking just a lull with Songkran coming and Easter this year, later, April 20.

Anyway, TMD predicted rain for this week, which was of course duly noted on all Phuket news websites, and as usual they were wrong. This has been the case for many, many years already, how long before 'journalists' take notice and stop reporting information that they should know is wrong. madmitch
Low season is kicking in a couple of weeks earlier than usual. Probably a good thing with the chronic water shortage we'll be facing if we don't get some decent rain soon.
EBlair48
It's now spring in Russia, who consider anything over 15 degress to be warm, and the Chinese have been put off by protests for months now, and are henceforth boycotting travel to SEA from MH370 The crappy water/trashy beach stories are getting around so even Thais aren't coming on vacation. This is our chance to take it over during the lull !!

PlastikbinLina
does the lack of customers mean prices will go up to make up the slack ( thai business logic ) ? No! prices are set by supply and demand. Higher prices could mean a shortage of something and a higher demand for it, or the same demand but less of it. e.g 100 serious beer drinkers trying to get one or more of the last 10 cans will pay anything to get a can. or as it is under normal circumstances, beer drinkers having unlimited cans at their grasp, will pay only the cheapest price. NamKangMan
Very quiet at around midday in Patong yesterday! It's been quiet in Patong, on a night out, for a while now. I doubt it's the heat, school holidays and flight MH370. Probably more to do with the new demographic of tourist coming here, at the expense of a shrinking western tourist market, Phuket's poor image and the fact that it's become a less value for money holiday. Ping
GOM, yes it's certainly quieter, but another reason for reduced traffic on Ratuthit is because 'Third' Road has become more navigable of late and a heck of a lot of traffic has taken to it, relieving Ratuthit and Nanai to some extent. Good to know Ping. I hate that road due to dirt and construction, but if they finally have it somewhat done, for sure a useful route.

Is that meant to be a 4 lane road from one end of Patong to the other & was it supposed to be finished several years ago? I assume it is also where the tunnel will connect to. If there are less people in Patong because of its poor image then the powers that be there only have themselves to blame for allowing it to degenerate. steelepulse
And what's funny is the mayor is running on his platform of making Patong better just as he's been overseeing for the last several years. I wonder where all the money went that was ear marked for the road from hell that has never been finished?
