BANGKOK: -- Former Prime Minister Anand Panyarachun is chosen as the most qualified person to be a neutral prime minister to run the country under the current political situation, a survey by Dusit Poll reveals today.

Dusit Poll conducted the survey of opinions from a total of 1,118 people during March 26-28 about who should be the neutral prime minister under the current political situation.

They were asked for comment on recent report of a neutral prime minister, and whether the situation now is timely yet to have neutral prime minister to run the country.

47.47% said a neutral prime minister is a possible option that might resolve the current conflict, while 22.90% said a prime minister should come from election.

When asked whether the current situation is necessary yet to have a neutral prime minister, 36.23% said it was necessary as it might ease the situation and drive the country forward.

When they were given four names of neutral prime ministers to choose, 40.55% supported former premier Anand Panyarachun.

Following behind are Palakorn Suwanatat, a privy councillor, 37%; Asa Sarasin, former permanent secretary of the Foreign Affairs Ministry, 35.43%; and Army commander-in-chief Gen Prayuth Chan-ocha, 35.04%.

Responding to a question of whether the neutral prime minister could resolve the political impasse, 34.30% voiced uncertain as they did not know yet who should be the neutral prime minister and how much he would be accepted, while 27.05% said it could ease the situation and get the country move forward.

24.40% said the situation would remain unchanged, citing conflicts of interest, power abuses, and deep-rooted political conflict as reasons.

Only 14.35% said the situation would worsen as certain groups of people might not accept a neutral prime minister, and would come to protest again.

One always takes polls with a certain amount of caution. But the pattern as of late in these polls has been a surprising acceptance of the concept of reform before a election ( 50 % ), a belief that nothing would change with a new one ( 72 % ) and now a growing acceptance for a neutral prime minister. When the public shows support both for the Pheu Thai party and the Democratic party in the 20s, it is clear that the public is moving beyond partisan politics - where they see no solution - into an arena where they see hope.

I have met this man several times and I fully agree that he is one that could pull the country together.

Agreed.

Problem when these polls come out, they are all biased if they are not in the red brigades favour. This the cry from the 10 pro gov posters.

This man will never be allowed as he is not a family Shin member.

Did anyone even ask him if he wants the job?

Did u look at the choices they offered in the poll. Hardly a fair talent contest is it. Army chief one of the 4 choices. What a selection.

An 80+ year old, one a Thai Chinese career diplomat the very definition of amaart and the army chief.

Who cooks up these surveys.

With Thaksins connections how about A man like Mugabi -Zimbabwe---Jutaporn----- It doesn't really matter about age the youngest has been the worst.

Good fair governance required-transparency. simple easy.

So replace Abhisit with Anand and show up for an election.

If this guy is really that popular the Dems should easily win legitimately.

My guess is all the fools dreaming of their glory days of mass oppression and unelected governments are just that - foolish dreamers.

WHAT ?? "quote-replace Abhisit WITH Anand ??????

My suggestion is if you can go into the public gallery at the court and listen yourself to the charges, after that you suggest who you think is a transparent leader next time should be-----come on lets hear of your choice without being silly---serious.

It's a sad state of affairs, when Thailand has to consider an 81 year old politician as an option.

I feel sure therc are others but I just don't know their names or am familiar with who they might be.

If they'd put him in this list, he might have come 3rd above the head of the army. This daily statistical mumbo jumbo.is quite funny to watch. It doesn't matter which side the stats support, the only 100% certainty is that the methodologies are flawed.

Do you support an appointed PM?

50%,yes

Should politicians have to resign at retirement age?

50% yes

Of the 4 below, who do you support?

25%, 25%, 25%, 25%

How many support Anand now.

All the surveys for all sides are leading and set to get the answers the want.

Pity we have/had a leader who thinks the south of Thailand is Nakorn Ratchasima. (Korat)

So they even need to rig a Dusit poll now?! You limited the choice to 4 names, removing all the popular choices like Chevit, and even then, the old man only got 40.5%??? He didn't even get a majority in a rigged poll??

Following behind are Palakorn Suwanatat, a privy councillor, 37%; Asa Sarasin, former permanent secretary of the Foreign Affairs Ministry, 35.43%; and Army commander-in-chief Gen Prayuth Chan-ocha, 35.04%.

The only name I recognise if Prayth and he's not neutral in any sense.

Well we need answers as we do not have a government that can govern with transparency.

Surveys spew out suitable suggestions only.

Really there is nothing much to debate until we have answers from the court. let all the other things going on add to the carnival.

Thailand has much more to cleanse than government-----streets scams beaches Bib, a million to name. BUT only good government can do this.

With only 36% agreeing we need an appointed PM now and then 40% 'voting' for Anand it is hardly a ringing endorsement.

I doubt Mr. Anand would take the job if offered. As far as I know his health is still good but as someone's post said he is 81 years old.

My choice is irrelevant.

If I had any say in the matter I would say the MP selected by their peers from the political party that wins the most seats in the lower house in the next election should be the next PM.

You know, democracy.

Well one principle of it anyway. A lot more to democracy that elections sunshine.

Anand, the 81 year old hope for the new reformed Thailand. abhisit dragged him up to head up the "Truth and Reconciliation Commission" after 2010 - we can see how well that went.

I wonder if Prayuth tore the Dusit Pollsters a new one for having the temerity to mention his name wrt an Interim PM, as he did with the UDD?

ps for all those Cartalucci conspiracists out there, Anand was invited by George Bush to join the Carlyle Group in 1999 and sat as a member of the advisory board. Tinfoil hat time.

I have a feeling no one on here really knows his views on many many issues. His history of being an appointed PM and how he conducted himself says some, but not all.

At the end of it, he's 81. Is that the best solution Thailand has for this apparent problem. If so. It wasn't much of a plan to begin with.

You do realize Goat Roper, that now you have fed them they will probably follow you home.........................................

I don't usually read posts by FB, usually scroll past them as quick as I can, he reminds me of fabio, but long winded. But in his post above he managed to use the words elitist, Elitism, Elite, elite and Elitist. Not bad for a post of 12 lines. Merely supports what I have said about the mentality of people who thrash this stupid word. (wish they would buy a dictionary and look up the meaning of the word, perhaps they would be not so quick in using it to describe their enemies)

I see you know nothing about Thailand

this statment is so far away from Thai Culture there is no way you ever get more than 10 meters from a bar when you visit

The Thai culture same as most of Asia sees wisdom in the aged

Only age demands respect

and years of experience and learning help you understand

If you ever have to marry a Thai girl like I did

I called on the oldest man in the village

when the negotiations to place all bowed and waied as he entered the room

and not 1 Thai lady who had been giving advice of 3/4 --- 1 million Baht

said a word when he decided no money was due because I was a farlang and was paying all her education expenses and giving her a new future that would benifit the family and the village

You need to learn respect for a culture you show you know nothing about
