Grenade attacks 'not meant to kill'

THE NATION

BANGKOK: -- MOST PEOPLE believe that the grenade explosions near protest sites are used to intimidate and threaten protesters but not kill, according to Dusit Poll.

That was the view of about 95 per cent of the 1,246 people surveyed countrywide from Tuesday to Saturday.

About 5 per cent believed that the throwing of grenades was not related to politics but may be a personal disagreement.

When the respondents were asked what they thought about daily grenade explosions, 37.5 per cent said they were scared, 21 per cent said it destroyed the country's image and had an affect on business, 20 per cent said they wanted to see police catch offenders and wanted to know the powerbrokers behind the attacks.

When asked what they fear most from the attacks, 42 per cent said family being hit, while 21 per cent said innocent people being hit.

On how to solve the political conflict, 32 per cent said it was difficult to solve, 22 per cent said every side should suggest solutions, 19 per cent said the leaders of the government and People's Democratic Reform Committee should think of what would help the country.

I would love to see the "wording" of the questions in this poll.

Only 20% want to see the offenders/power brokers caught and brought to justice? That means 80% either agree with the grenadings, or couldn't care less.

95% believe the grenades were not meant to kill but when missiles like this are launched intent can go out the window.

Lousy aim, a ricochet, people in the line of fire not thought to be there and so many other variables make firing a reckless act with utter disregard for the consequences and maybe only Thais would seek to excuse it.

Grenades not meant to kill should be thrown without pulling out the pin.

I wonder what percent told the pollster to stop asking them stupid questions.

"20 per cent said they wanted to see police catch offenders and wanted to know the powerbrokers behind the attacks."

I think it shows the population's expectations of the police.

80% know who is throwing the grenades, know the police will do nothing.

Sure, not meant to kill, yes, I saw those grenades for sale in Big C, they are party grenades,

make believe one.... apparently there 2 kinds, meant to kill and than the other kind...

I wonder if any of the people injured by these "'bang bangs"' were included in this scientific survey?

Now that’s an understatement if I ever heard one, “Not meant to Kill” when used in a congested city? And what about the damages caused by the shrapnel! Or is it made out of rubber?

TAT must have been running this poll.

Nothing to see here, move along.

It had to come - the politically correct grenade!

Never knew that grenades had the cognitive ability to chose whether to kill, scare or to maim. blink.png

What an absolutely stupid poll and whether the grenades are 'meant' to kill or not, a number of them have killed people. The one at Victory Monument was not meant to kill ? It was thrown on purpose at a large group of people. The one at Big C was not meant to kill ? It was thrown into the middle of the main shopping district during the middle of the day. Bullshit I say, they were absolutely meant to kill. Maybe some others were not, the ones fired at the courts at night can be seen as intimidatory, but regardless of that any civilian found to be in possession of or to have used grenades is breaking the law and army / police if committing such acts should also face the courts. Whether meant to kill or intimidate - both actions are illegal.

What a thoughtful and intellectual survey, I hope there is some money left in the account to do real work.

Typical LOS mentality...........rolleyes.gif (can I say that).?

Well that's OK then.

Please someone explain to me what the hell is the point of these polls.

It doesn't matter what the motivation is, if someone dies is it.
