Marmite as Mosquito Repelant

Featured Replies

I was told by a friend that Marmite taken on a regular basis is as good a Mosquito repelant as you can get.

I decided to give it a go and proceeded to drink a cup of warm Marmite twice a day, after about 10 days I noticed that I was still getting bit, but it was like they had had a nibble and left me quickly.

Now I have been on it 3 weeks, and I'm sleeping with all the windows open and not one single Mozzie bite.

Have recommended it to a few other folks and they are getting the same results, I would imagine that any yeast extract would have the same effect, but I actually like Marmite.

Will vegemite be a viable alternative? Or will it never be..?

It's an acquired taste anyway, personally I'd rather get bitten by those insects than eating that stuff.

Just spread it all over your body and nothing will ever get near you!

It appears that it!s the vitamin B-12 in Vege/Marmite that repels the mozzies. I used to walk the beaches in the South Island of NZ, right through clouds of sand flies and in other places, mozzies, never got bit after starting on double doses of B-12. Same here in Thailand, my wife and I are together, the mozzies attack her and leave me alone. Now she takes B-12, and doesn't get bitten.

Only use Vegemite to do that, using Marmite would be a terrible waste....tongue.pngbiggrin.png

There is talk in Canada about banning Marmite as it has too much yeast blink.png ..... some bureaucrat with not much to do, must have come up with that ..... facepalm.gif

Something from the UK but don't know if it is effective.

Smother me in Marmite and throw me to the lesbians.

Maybe there's a market after all for what was an April Fool's joke - Cans of Vegemite drink!!

It is already banned in Denmark because it has too many vitamins and minerals in it but they are not mentioned on the label!! Bureaucratic jobsworths.
