Good Computer Man in Chiang Mai

Featured Replies

I have just moved to Chiang Mai and hopefully I shall soon be receiving a brand new laptop from Bangkok with just DOS on. I need to find a good computer man who load up the software including Windows who is preferably easy to get to I.e. Not by the moat!

Any suggestions?

I can see nothing of any help at all!!!

Be patient. The "call me 0979645872536" posters will be along shortly.

"brand new laptop with just DOS on it." Did you just get out of prison?

Pretty common for a laptop/netbook to come sans OS or either DOS or Linux.

OK, you've got the whole internet in front of you; show me one new laptop that ships with DOS.

One does not even install DOS before installing WIN 7, and that has been out for about five years.

We're not talking about the internet here. Just go to Pantip Plaza or elsewhere and see for yourself. Most commonly the computers come only with Dos.

Regarding the question of a computer that "ships" with DOS: I looked at Invade IT... one page of ASUS laptops had 29 models - 19 had DOS listed on them. Most, if not all, laptops purchased from Invade IT would be "shipped" to the purchaser.

Maybe you are thinking of MS-DOS ?

used on less than 2 in 1000 desktop/laptops.......wise use of time. But, I will stand corrected on the availability of new systems with "dos." Simply a smoke and mirror way for various parties to attempt to steal intellectual property. Are the pirates installing 7 now? Those Windows systems are only as good as the "updates." If you're too stingy to pay MS, just use Chrome. Check out the new Chromebox...http://promos.asus.com/us/chrome-os/chromebox/

Many computers in Thailand are sold without an operating systems pre-installed unlike in the west. Shops will often put some version of dos on them just to demonstrate to purchasers that they work. If you buy a laptop and a legitimate copy of Windows they are happy to install it for you.

There are people who aren't "too stingy to pay MS", but prefer linux or ubuntu and don't want Windoze pre-installed at any price.

Rents and incompetence is what I am led to believe.

A friend with a business in there went to pay the rent recently to find it doubled overnight with no warning. She is in the process of looking elsewhere...

Yub was about to recommend that too

Goodspeed. Pantip Plaza 2nd floor.

But since they do sell many machines with ubuntu pre-installed, it appears that those buying "dos" are doing it with the intention of illegally using Windows, like the OP.

You are making unfounded accusations of the OP so would recommend not going there. You really don't get it it seems. It is a matter of choice. Why pay several thousand baht for a copy of windows you do not want if one prefers something else. Ubuntu is hardly the only Linux distribution out there and others may want to install their own preference. Myself, for Linux, prefer OpenSUSE, others like MINT, etc.

A post continuing making an unfounded accusation removed. Another one will get a warning.

OP - I'd be happy to recommend someone. Do you require a technician that can also sell you licences for Windows and the other software, or have you already purchased them?

C'Mon. I'd have thought there quite a few good knowledgeable guys of this forum who can "help" him.
