BANGKOK: -- An overwhelming majority of respondents of a new poll say the political situation is causing them stress.

Dusit Poll surveyed almost 1,392 people throughout the country between April 8-12 to find out what was causing them stress.

The highest number of the respondents, 97 per cent, said the political situation was causing them stress; 94 per cent said the economy was stressing them out; and 92 per cent pointed to social problems.

The main causes of the political stress are the prolonged protests (41 per cent), the poor conduct of politicians (36 per cent) and the political instability (22 per cent).

For economy, the high cost of living was the main stress factor (41 per cent) followed by low income and personal debt (31 per cent) and the economic recession and the globe's low confidence in the Thai economy (28 per cent).

For social problems, the political conflict led the way (56 per cent) followed by the selfishness of people (25 per cent) and poor morality (18.5 per cent).

Personally I am more stressed out by Songkran.

If people are so stressed out about things most of them don't even understand, then they should seek help. Because most This I have met, wouldn't know the first things about mainstream politics if it smacked them in the mouth.

The Thais I know are stressed from the morning shows showing all the bad stuff. But they have this incredible inability to analyze what is really going on.

I am noticing that a lot of them are tired of both sides of the political circus and are showing signs of being burned out....so off they go, out to eat!

You have good point , I remember back in 1997 when unfortunately the only area earning money for Thailand was the sex industry, the rest of Asia was in recession.

making the need for more bars and parlours to open, increasing competition and more stress, creating another vicious circle and excuse for crime to justify more corruption, making Suttheps ultimate plan for a continuous groundhog day seem to be the right choice for the country and the average Thai in spite of the cost to them.

Take a look at the 2013 Bangkok governor polls,

Dusit gave an odd ball result at odds with others.

Add up the numbers in the BKK university poll first column and it adds up to 100%, but add it up in the Suan Dusit poll and it adds up to 100.43%, which is impossible. Even if all 7 numbers had been rounded up it would be at most 100+7*0.01 = 100.07%.

But they put out this poll which must be impossible. Why?

So they say 97% of people are stressed, and 95% of Crimea wants to be in Russia...OK, that wasn't them, but when you see almost unity like that, it doesn't ring true. Even if they've started vaguing up the numbers to whole digits.
