Political mess is stressing people out
The Nation

BANGKOK: -- An overwhelming majority of respondents of a new poll say the political situation is causing them stress.

Dusit Poll surveyed almost 1,392 people throughout the country between April 8-12 to find out what was causing them stress.

The highest number of the respondents, 97 per cent, said the political situation was causing them stress; 94 per cent said the economy was stressing them out; and 92 per cent pointed to social problems.

The main causes of the political stress are the prolonged protests (41 per cent), the poor conduct of politicians (36 per cent) and the political instability (22 per cent).

For economy, the high cost of living was the main stress factor (41 per cent) followed by low income and personal debt (31 per cent) and the economic recession and the globe's low confidence in the Thai economy (28 per cent).

For social problems, the political conflict led the way (56 per cent) followed by the selfishness of people (25 per cent) and poor morality (18.5 per cent).

Ordinary Thais don't generally read news and are not interested in knowing anything about politics or the workings or not workings of their land or government. The rare letters that they write to Thai newspapers reflect a total lack of intellectual disposition and vision. The average Thai couldn't care less unless it affected their pocketbook directly.

The best barometer of Thai stress would be to write up articles and interviews with the bar girls all around the land. They have tremendous insight in to reality and the economy. They can provide real comparative statistics on the economy and the general feeling. But we never see any Thai news or articles about them. As if they didn't exist and their only role was to service the sex tourism trade and to send money home to buy products such as TVs or trucks and motorcycles.

The Thai sex trade is the key barometer of how Thailand is doing. If business is slow in the soi bars and massage parlors, this will impact the entire Thai economy and therefore, the stress level.

Sadly.............. So True

You have good point , I remember back in 1997 when unfortunately the only area earning money for Thailand was the sex industry, the rest of Asia was in recession.

These PAD-Dem Polls seeking to 'launder their opinion via a pretend public" aside, what of their agenda is being laundered here?

It is that there is a "political mess" when there is none...... The PAD-Dem's want there to be a political mess, thereby emphasizing my point about these Polls being rooted in their side of the political divide.

For their coup-advocacy to find traction, they need a 'political mess'...Other favorite terminology they like is a "stand-off, crisis, political conflict, etc., etc"

Coup-advocacy pretending to be anti-Govt. and protesting, does not a 'political mess' make.

An electoral majority is in place, a Governing Parliamentary majority avoids gridlock in Parliament. The Opposition has every opportunity to vet its' avalanche of accusations against the Govt. via the electorate and/or televised Parliament.

So where is the mess, other than in the politicized judiciary, military and so-called Independent Organizations?

The voters have been clear about their choices, and will do so again when given the opportunity. This frightens the coup-advocates though.....But never mind that minority.

This statistic is brilliant..."almost 1,392 people". Was the shortfall one whole person or just part of a person?

Of course it's just another poll but the overall sentiment is probably right. Thais are sick of the politicians, their corruption and their power games and just want to get on with their lives.

Can't argue with that.

Only in Thailand .....

The poll asks "Tell me .... what is stressing you out" The answer adds up to almost 300% .... Only in Thailand!

Yep, just another short term SNAP Poll to get some minor majority of Bangkok only Bangkok

Does the UN democratic party have any policies or "promises"

Before the people are Not allowed to vote them in?

How about Top price guaranteed for Rice - oops they tried that one.

Suggestions - offer farmers Top Market Price Only guarantee.

Tax New Car ownership - Must be 18 to have a bike/scooter ( & take a test before they ride)

No free bus rides or Tolls - to pay for more and better public transport

Sack ANY government worker (ALL) who even hint of taking a bride or ask for extra money from Farang.

Ooops I guess I wouldn't get voted in then....

(Yes - I'm staying inside - waiting to go on holiday next week)

making the need for more bars and parlours to open, increasing competition and more stress, creating another vicious circle and excuse for crime to justify more corruption, making Suttheps ultimate plan for a continuous groundhog day seem to be the right choice for the country and the average Thai in spite of the cost to them.

Who says he's just a narcissist that doesn't know what he's doing from one day to the next?.

What does a stressed Thai look like? I`ve lived here more than 20 years and never seen one...(Which of course not proves that such a person actually exists)

Funny, notice they've stopped giving detailed numbers, after they were caught making up impossible fractions of people from their previous polls!

OK, so Thais are stressed, quick lets have a coup and appoint Prem. Not!

Take a look at the 2013 Bangkok governor polls,

http://asiancorrespondent.com/98690/2013-bangkok-gubernatorial-race-part-8-suan-dusit-shows-14-lead-for-pongsapat-bkk-uni-shows-7-point-lead/

Dusit gave an odd ball result at odds with others.

Add up the numbers in the BKK university poll first column and it adds up to 100%, but add it up in the Suan Dusit poll and it adds up to 100.43%, which is impossible. Even if all 7 numbers had been rounded up it would be at most 100+7*0.01 = 100.07%.

But they put out this poll which must be impossible. Why?

So they say 97% of people are stressed, and 95% of Crimea wants to be in Russia...OK, that wasn't them, but when you see almost unity like that, it doesn't ring true. Even if they've started vaguing up the numbers to whole digits.
