Thailand's Southern Islamic Federation seeks appeal in Saudi businessman's murder case

PATTANI, April 17 – The Islamic Federation of 15 Southern Provinces has issued a statement advocating an appeal in the recent court case in which five police officers were acquitted in connection with the murder of a Saudi Arabia businessman.

The federation unanimously agreed to appeal the case after the Thai Criminal Court dropped charges against Pol Lt Gen Somkid Boonthanom and four police officers on March 31.

They were implicated in the murder of Saudi businessman Mr Mohammad al-Ruwaili in 1990 but the Criminal Court ruled that the witnesses’ testimonies against the suspects were too weak.

The Islamic Federation said the case was related to the principle of Islamic religion and the relationship between Thailand and the global Islamic community, and it could jeopardise the ongoing attempt to solve problems in Thailand’s far South.

The federation said Thai and overseas judiciaries should be involved in considering the case while highly-respected Islamic agencies have offered assistance and advice to ensure justice in the case.

The federation said its statement would be distributed to the Embassy of Saudi Arabia in Thailand, the Sheikhul Islam Office in Thailand, the Islamic Committee in every province and schools throughout the country. (MCOT online news)

Sorry for my reply but this murder case was (is) without any religion question. There were a few greedy police officers who were willing to kill those poor Saudi guy for his possessions. If this Saudi guy would been Visigoth or Hottentot would been killed also.

This reason I don't understand how comes this organization to the case.

And this case can't give solution their southern rally at all.

The Saudis, could cause alot of problems for Thailand. They have the means to fund terrorism in the south. Look out Thailand!

It starts with funding a couple of new mosques and madrassas

Well...I guess the Thais need to revisit this decision...cave-in to the Muslim demands...fall victim to veiled threats of violence...

It is the Muslim way...or hell to pay...goes on all over the world...terrorism rules...

This has nothing to do with Islam. It has everything to with the murder of foreigners, by police.

"Thailand's Southern Islamic Federation?"

Is there such a thing at least geopolitically? In 1997 the Thailand Consitution was amended to provide that the King of Thailand is not only the administrative head of state but also the spiritual head of all religions in Thailand, including Islam. Shariah law does not apply to anywhere in Thailand. The King has a Muslim advisor on Muslim administrative matters, represents the interests of Muslims, and presides over a national council of Islamic affairsbut the advisor has no legal authority. But I find no reference of there being a legal jursidiction in Thailand called "Southern Islamic Federation." Perhaps that is a title the Muslim national council has given itself.

All I gotta say is "uh oh". This is trouble no doubt on top of all the other trouble going on here.

Really...absolutely nothing? Humm...the Imam is lying then?

although these guys are pushing this a bit hard it is easy to understand with the way it has been dismissed. Everyone knows these guys are guilty but they are having their ars*s taken care of by thai justice or should I say the lack of it.

Have no clue what you are on about. If the northern lanna buddhist bowlers wanted to form a "Northern Buddhist Bowling Federation" why would anyone assume it has anything to do with the thai constitution or the monarchy?.
