hullupullo
So what are the provinces? Any more info other than 52 and 42? Which adds up to 94, so some will be flooded and drought stricken? This is typical. I always see these "warnings" yet no provinces are actually stated. Completely (and typically) ambiguous. slipperylobster
You then, are not a sailor. Things can change quickly, especially at this time of year. If you do decide to take a sailboat out, do not venture far, as those clear skies many decide to become unclear very quickly.
fullcave
52 provinces to see summer storms; 42 provinces declared drought disaster zones BANGKOK, 20 April 2014 (NNT) – The Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM) has warned 52 provinces to beware of sudden summer storms, while 288 districts in 42 provinces have already been declared drought disaster areas in need of assistance. According to the DDPM director-general Chatchai Phromlert, there are 42 provinces, 288 districts, 1,765 sub-districts and 16,960 villages declared drought disaster zones in need of emergency assistance. The relevant officials have been assigned to arrange drought zoning and to survey affected agricultural lands, in order to design effective water management plans to meet the needs of each area. In the meantime, water distribution will be extended to cover all areas. The public is requested to cooperate by using water economically. Meanwhile, 52 provinces across all regions have been advised to prepare for upcoming summer thunderstorms which will bring heavy rain, strong gusts of wind and extensive hail throughout the region, between the 21st and 26th April. While relevant officials are monitoring weather and storms closely, rescue teams with equipment are also preparing themselves to provide immediate assistance in cases of emergency. Those who have been affected by drought or summer storms can contact the emergency hotline on 1784 around the clock. -- NNT 2014-04-21 42 provinces, 288 districts… No telling where (center, east, north or south) as Thailand has 73 but storm in south China sea is a definite clue…. This is typical. I always see these "warnings" yet no provinces are actually stated. Completely (and typically) ambiguous. There is no need for a long list because the local news in your area will alert you. The above is just general news. I think it should be obvious if you live in a province affected by drought. Do you really need to be told? As for the storms, just watch the local news or ask a neighbor. True, but tomorrow i am leaving on a motorbike to Kanchanaburi, the North to Chiang Rai, Nan, Nong Khai and back, so more accurate info would help. I have checked on Thaivisa here and think i will be ok!
Tom420
Hua Hin dry and has been for, well I honestly cannot put a figure to it, at least 2 months? The heat is unbearable, I have lived here a few years now and I cannot function during miday hours, if these storms bring cooer weather then I am fine with that, I don't care how much rain they bring or how strong the wind is, I just want this hot season to die. Been calling rain for Lat Krabang these past few weeks. ..nary a drop I saw something a while ago about a scientist who studies the activities of the sun, he realised that weather patterns shared a correlation with the suns activity. He would go to betting agencies and bet against the MET office predictions based on his research for the weather on Christmas and so forth, he would always win money due to his calculations. SanukJoeII
Useless to stick to this generalizing Disaster Department. There is only one reliable source for weather forecasts and storm warnings: Thai Meteorological Department, they give excellent information, divided by area and cities, based on their meteo stations. They update every 4 hours and really quick, e.g. at 7.05 pm you can see the weather situation in an area that was measured at 7 pm. A real good service. Here the link: http://www.tmd.go.th/en/province.php?id=23 Although this is for Udonthani, a simple click on another area and you are informed. BTW for Udonthani there is no storm warning....
