Thai honesty

There are often jaded people on here who criticise thai people about every little thing. I thought I'd share what happened to me yesterday since I think it's nice to be positive when one gets a chance.

I flew back in Chiang mai and when I got to the apartment, I noticed that I didn't have my laptop and phone with me. I realised I had either left it on the songthaew or on the trolley at the airport. First, the staff at the apartment were very helpful trying to identify the songthaew by reviewing security tape footage. However, I wasn't going to wait around for that since I grew increasingly sure that I had left it on the trolley so I hustled back to the airport and when I got to the information office, I saw it sitting nicely on their desk waiting for me. Turns out a security guard had picked the case up from the trolley and returned it to their office immediately. I thanked them profusely and offered some money as a reward and they repeatedly declined and called the guard over. I proceeded to give him the reward, they took a nice picture of us together and I was on my way a much happier person than when I arrived.

So kudos to the staff at the airport!

I have had a bunch of Thai women working for me and they are always turning in wallets with money that customers left behind or expensive smart phones and such. A lot of Thais are very honest and they don't get a lot of credit for it.

In all countries of the world, there are the kruds and the decent people, the Thais are not unique in this respect.

I have no doubts that some posters will give their accounts of how some Thais behaved decently and were honest with them as if this is something out of the norm or contrary to popular belief there are some decent and good Thai people out there so I want to tell you about it. The shear fact that someone would create a thread on the basis that a Thai was honest and done a good deed, is indeed racist even if you`re not aware of it or done intentionally.. This could be based on the same lines as saying; I am not colour prejudice, I have several black friends and some are quite intelligent, as an acquaintance once said to me when he began criticising the African nations.

It`s a form of misinformation that is ingrained in the subconscious mind, that certain races of people have certain traits and seems to come as a surprise to them when they encounter these people who appear to be the exception to the rule, contrary to what they actually believe or were lead to believe.

I take all people for not what they are but for what they do, the good, the bad and the ugly, and would never define anyone`s race, nationality or religion with any particular actions on their part, regardless whether these were either good or bad.

If you want to turn a nice little story into something else, it's on you... I simply noticed that there are often complaints on this board so why not share a happy story. This could have happened anywhere but it happened here. Perhaps the title should have simply been honesty.

Basically what I believe is you are attacking an unusually story for Thai Visa as being racist. I have read many posts of the negative variety and noticed you were not right on them calling them Raciest.

I for one have lost my wallet twice only to have the finders track me down and return it. Credit cards and every baht still in it. Sorry to disappoint you but I am not a raciest. When an event on the personal level of this magnitude happens to one no matter what country they are in I feel it is justified and appreciated by most to have it posted on a general information at the personal level forum.

You should check again and read all my posts going back as far as you like to see my views and my attacks on those who have been negative about the Thais and Thailand. Problem is that these types of threads and posts have now become so prevalent on Thai visa that`s it`s almost impossible to keep up with them.

Saw a happy story in General this morning that involved a taxi driver (Bangkok) going out of his way to help and refused payment - A truly unbelievable Thai story.

I constantly have Thais insist on providing services for free - like fixing my bicycle or a piece of equipment with very little damage. How many shops in America or England - run by someone that you have never met before - are going to do that?

Watch yourself you are going to get branded as a raciest for comments like that by certain people.cheesy.gif
