Hello all,

There seem to be lots of options in buying tablet computers. Here are my needs: has to be light weight, need it for searching the web, eread, files, data, including photos, embeded camera, memory card slots, watch movies, Youtubes, be able to use it as phone if possible, , wifit, emails, basically for regular use. I am not interested in for game features. I am looking for standard price not too expensive. Does any one has information on where in Pantip Plaza or MBK stores to focus on? Also it has to be upgraded, is it possible a tablet that can share different OS?

My mini notebook Dell laptop is getting heavier. Perhaps I can trade it in? If not, what anti virus and anti spyware would you suggest? I am currently using Eset.

What would be great is to go with some computer experts :-)

I have little time left. Will appreciate it.

If you want something that works OK as a phone and does all that, I'd go with the Samsung Note III.

If you go for something bigger, you probably want to think about a Bluetooth headset.

You can get extended batteries up to 10,000Mah these days, which is as big as some netbooks.

At IT City on the 5th floor of Phantip there are some nice little ASUS ten-inch notebooks: the Transformer 300T and 100T. The WiFi only 300T with a 32 GB SSD runs Android and costs about 10,400. The 100T runs Windows 8, has a SIM card slot and a 500 GB hard drive in addition to its 32 GB SSD. I think it's around 12,400. Both of them detach from their keyboards so they can be used as tablets as well as notebooks. They seem like good value for the money. I like their keyboards better than the keyboard on my Lenovo S410P, a 14-incher. There is also a Transformer Trio which runs Windows 8 when attached to the keyboard and Android when detached and used as a tablet. It has to be special ordered. I think it's around 14,900. There are other choices, of course. IT City has a large selection of various brands. You can go in and play with them and see which computer you like best.

How are you going to get on the internet ?

a Tablet with a Sim card slot ?

If you are going to use your smart phone as a Hotspot I am not sure if you can also receive phone calls.

or are you just going to use WiFi when you can find it ?

I wouldn't be stretched to suggest a Samsung Note III can replace a Dell laptop?

Should have read I would be stretched to suggest a Samsung Note III can replace a Dell laptop?

No phone nor tablet can replace a laptop, period. I run a i5 processor and 8GB of ram in my Dell ultra book with Win 8 OP system and I can watch a HD (8 GB) movie on it if needed and it doesn't shutter.

Mobility is complete different matter off-course, I don't bring my Dell on my daily trips around Pattaya but just my 5" screen smart phone and it does the job nicely for that and I never watch movies from it anyway (the phone). Every time I go working overseas I bring along my Dell, the Onda 792 tablet I bought almost 2 years ago have been used maybe 10 hours total, well well at least I got wiser all the same, I might bring the Onda when going holidaying on Koh Chang next week but it's only so my 4 year old son can watch Thomas train (via YouTube) on it and I have my Dell to myself.

I forgot to add: In the office (man cave) in the house I run a super HD 27" Dell monitor together with an aging 22" Samsung via a Desk Top PC, nothing can replace a Desk Top PC man, never bother using the Dell laptop at home, never.

I don't mean to sound arrogant but that just the way it is, arrogant or not, I don't carewink.png .

I totally agree you arrogant sob. wink.png I was pointing out likewise that the op's needs (Here are my needs: has to be light weight, need it for searching the web, eread, files, data, including photos, embeded camera, memory card slots, watch movies, Youtubes, be able to use it as phone if possible,) would be hard to do on any tablet or phone device - just like you.

The Note III will play a standard 700Mb movie just fine. There is not point wasting space or download on an 8Gb Rip to watch on a laptop screen unless it's 50" or higher, which might affect mobility.
