I just completed my fifth extension for retirement. Five years ago, I made it a multiple entry. If memory serves me right, I paid 1900 baht for the basic fee for extending, and another 1900 for multiple re-entry.

The next three years I did not plan on traveling, so just paid the 1900.

Needing to travel extensively this year, yesterday I asked for multiple re-entry. She asked for 6800 baht. I asked her for the breakdown, and then, of course, there was a breakdown in communication. Her English turned to bamboo, and my Thai was no longer understood. She only repeatedly jabbed at a calculator, rapidly, always coming up with 6800. She, not I, was pissed off. I mentioned 3800 a few times, then she demanded 3800 baht, which I turned over.

Minutes later my papers are ready:

A receipt for 1900;

A receipt for 1000 baht, with "re-entry (s)" written on it;

A stamp in my passport same as the first time: IMMIGRATION THAILAND RE-ENTRY PERMIT ….

but where it says "number," instead of having stamped it "multiple," it is stamped "single."

So, is my memory regarding the fees faulty? Or did I get screwed?

It appears they pocketed 900 baht, and screwed me for multiple re-entries.

At what immigration office did this happen?

It has been 1000 baht for a single re-entry and 3800 baht for a multiple re-entry permits for over 10 years.

An extension and multiple re-entry permit would be a total of 5700 baht. I don't know how she got her math wrong.

The receipts are correct but if you handed over 3800 baht something went wrong along the way.

It is probably to late to do anything now. You somehow lost 900 baht.

I don't care about the 900 baht so much. 900 baht would be "acceptable" if they had gone ahead and stamped it multiple. But I had planned on a dozen or more trips with the GF this year, so at a 1000 a pop, that's adding up.

Well, this tips the scale for me. I'm tired of all this nonsense. What they did was simply spiteful, wanting to "teach me a lesson," so next year I'd play along.

Well, there won't be a next year, Somchai. Chile is calling.

The immigration office was Trat. The woman that did the paperwork is bipolar, and anyone dealing with her will immediately see it.

In the meantime, maybe I'll get a stamp made up that says MULTIPLE. Where they stamped "single" is very faint. whistling.gif

Don't even think of tampering with the stamp. If on your second trip abroad you pass through Bangkok airport, get your multiple-entry re-entry permit there.

Gee, Dad, I was joking.

I've long been planning my escape, and this, after many other lies and scams over almost eight years here, has tipped the scales. I won't need but the one re-entry, to come back and get my dog after I've arranged lodging back in the States. Even a dog deserves better than to live in a place where you can't let your guard down for a minute.
