Desktop Power Supply

My PS, which I think I've properly fried now (separate story) is a Mushkin 750k Max output.

Looking at InvadeIT website on the Sticky, I don't see Mushkin, so what is a comparable brand to replace it with?

Not a techie, never replaced one before but thought I would order a PS and try it myself before lugging this suitcase to a shop in town. Seems there are a some screws and 3 or 4 daunting looking cable harnesses going here and there, but hope I can just take one at a time and see how it goes. Any words of advice most appreciated. Yes, will be giving things a wipe, pretty dirty, haven't had the sides off for at least 6 months.

Tx.

HI,

Replacing power is not that hard, and if you need 750w then the following selection would do

http://www.invadeit.co.th/category/power-supplies/701w-800w/

Go for a cooler master they are quite good, corsair also good.

I've exclusively used CoolerMaster PSs and recommend them as never had a problem and they are quite efficient. Actually I need to upgrade my PS due to a high end graphics card being added and am going for the Corsair 750W full modular supply. I would have gone for CoolerMaster again but the power range I want doesn't have a modular version on Invadeit site.

May I ask, what is modular? Looking at mine, it doesn't say modular anywhere on it that I can see.

There are actually 3 types: Standard, Partially modular and full modular.

Standard has all the cables coming out of it in a bundle including cables you may never need.

Partially modular has the primary cables that any build would use such as the Mainboard power cables and the rest are plug in cables

Fully modular the power supply has no cables coming out of it and you plug in the power cables as you need them. Allows for a much tidier and cooler case as all those extra cables are not there. Below is a fully modular PS. Note the row of sockets.

This one look the nearest with the cables that plug into the PS

most have the cables just coming out of the PS [NO plug-in] click on this link on there web page Click here for specifications from the manufacturer

You just made me look, so now I see I have 1 big cable that appears hard wired into the PS, then the 3 plugs.

Save for the diff between modular and.... not modular, thanks to all so for dialing me into CoolerMaster and/or Corsair.

I may follow up on this thread when I get the PS and try this.

Tx. all.

That makes sense, thanks very much for explaining that. I now know I have a partial since I just saw 1 cable is h/w'd then the 3 plugs. Tx again.
