I've had both eyes done at the Rutnin Eye Hospital on Soi Asoke. Cost depends somewhat on the type of lens chosen. Friends have had same surgery at other private hospitals in the area. Cost seems to range from baht

Mine rang about baht 40,000 per eye but this was 15 years back, a friend checked at Rutnin a couple months back, was quoted about baht 60,000. A friend went to Central General and was quoted about baht 45,000 at current exchange rates.

Wow isn't this an 18 minute procedure with no stitches even?

Could this be why ophthalmologists are top of the money making league in Medicare?

I wouldn't have any qualms about having it done out here, but presumably there's some competition in this market and you could do better on price?

ps: Not wanting to butt into someone else's thread but

I had Lasik some years ago and have been left with dry eye syndrome was measured with 25% of the normal tears.

I still do well with mild glasses for reading but have real problems with glare which I am told is related to dry eye. I have to close my eyes if sitting behind a car with his brake lights at the traffic lights and just HATE bright headlights coming the other way. (PLEASE don't use your fog lights as headlights as so many do.)

I wonder if I could have had simple lens replacement instead and as I see a slow change in my eyes I wonder is this an option for me in future…..any reason I shouldn't do after Lasik?

ps You'll be pleased to hear I have recruitment of the ears too so I hear too much to balance things out!

Some pretty expensive equipment involved in that short procedure, as well as costly specialized training.

I too have the glare pronlem though in my case not due to lasiK. Wearing yellow tinted glasses (like on ski goggles) helps enormously, enough that I can even manage to drive, suggest you try it.

I have had both my right and left eye done at Kalasin Government Hospital. The cost for my left eye done in March was just under ฿15,000. I would go to a public hospital. Or to a Private Ophthalmologist that works out of a public hospital. That's what I did four years ago for my right eye. He worked out of Kalasin Hospital got me in very quickly and the cost was around ฿18,000. I would have used him this time, but I was covered under the Insurance for Foreigners scheme. The only reason I know the cost is because there was a mix up and they gave me a bill, before they realized I was covered under the insurance.

I understand the lenses, imported, are a fair part of the cost. I had mine done at Bumrungrad for less than 40,000 per eye all inclusive about 10 years ago. Included all post operative visits/checks. Very professional, both doctor and facilities. Current prices on their website is 97,900 Baht for both eyes.

Yellow glasses had not thought if that.

I'll give it a try!

I am also getting a halo effect and my ophthalmologist suggested using yellow tinted glasses.

A public hospital charges less than ฿40,000 for both eyes, a private hospital more than twice as much. This is for a routine procedure with no antithesis involved. Take your choice.
