BANGKOK: -- Five men have been arrested on suspicion of possessing 384,000 methamphetamine tablets worth about Bt77 million with intent to sell.

"They are one of the 11 drug-trafficking gangs operating in Samut Prakan," Pongsapat Pongcharoen, secretary-general of the Narcotics Control Board, said yesterday.

The suspects were identified as Sittipong Waiyapat, 28, Nattakit Thongdee, 27, Chakrit Niljamhaeng, 28, Kwannapa Ittapon, 30, and Suwit Luang-orn, 60.

Nattakit was nabbed in Bangkok's Bang Na district on Tuesday, allegedly on his way to deliver the shipment.

Investigations led to the capture of his accomplices.

Separately, Afridi Resalat, a Pakistani, was picked up on Wednesday after he contacted an Immigration Service Centre in Bangkok about issuing him a visa.

Police had taken out an arrest warrant for Resalat during the past month after a drug suspect detained over 147 kilograms of heroin implicated him.

Good catch ,

If the Pakistani wasn't Pakistani, but rather a Thai Mr. Big flipped out by the Thai busted, one would have to wonder if the Thai police would have followed up on the Thai Mr. Big. The question gets raised since we never ever see a Thai Mr. Big being hauled off in handcuffs and charged with racketeering.

Probably due to a few reasons ...

  • Paying off the BIB
  • Being a senior member of the BIB himself
  • Just like point 1, being a 'friend' (financial friend) of the BIB and of far too much value to bring in
  • Or possibly controlling the BIB due to his 'standing' in society.

All possibilities of course and probably very wrong of me to insinuate such things. smile.png

Or simply Mr Big is smart enough not to carry on any drugs and not to bee at the same place as his clerks.

...or maybe Mr Big is sitting in the mountains of the Golden Triangle and coordinating his business from the headquarters far out of reach for the DEA and BIB's.

Just my 2cents.

When those dealers first clapped eyes on all those drugs, I bet they had feelings of euphoria and dreams of a life of luxury and decadence... Now I bet the sight of them makes them want to puke their guts out.

Normally I would say these 'almost daily' drug busts are a credit the the police force.... But I think we all know that they are motivated by the fact they are just removing their competitors... Those drugs will now be distributed by 'others'.

who invents the price of 200 baht for a pill, you think that a day labourer can spare 200 baht from his salary ?
