Adeeos
You don't count every card,,, even in a 5 deck shoe, reshuffle,, it's keeping count of the ratio of high, to low card,, hence the dealer has a 4 showing,, (always assume a 10 card down),,,, so 14,,, knowing there's a HIGH ratio of 10 cards left in the shoe,, and you even have a total of say 9,with BOTH your cards,, sitting at the LAST position,,, YOU have the choice of staying with a 9,,, and giving THEM the next card,, (possibly a 9-10),, in which case,,, everyone with under 21,,, wins,, so is NOT only you winning,,,,

Benmart
The casino mafia at it again ! They really dont want anyone to beat them do they!!Casinos were not built by winners. Mafia? Easy to say. Difficult to support with fact. I've worked in a Las Vegas casino. This industry is highly regulated, inspected and monitored in Nevada. The old days are long gone when organized crime was involved. Now, it's organized government that "runs" this show. Edited May 4, 2014 by Benmart

Benmart
Cheating is slipping in your own cards. If he upped is odds of winning over the casino's odds (which are ALWAYS better than the punter's) by utilizing his brain, then he is not cheating IMO. Good on ya, Ben, I hope you took the greedy so 'n sos for a decent amount. The greedy are often those that sit on the players side of the table. No one is forced to play. The State of Nevada sets the gaming laws. The house decides who is allowed on private property as a guest. Abide by their rules, however strange, or be shown the door.Living life on life's terms. Maggusoil
Not just a pretty face, our Ben. Its not just casinos, when you start humbling bookmakers at their own game, they think nothing of refusing your bets. What a blast . .. If you can get away it of course its not cheating. . . by stacking the odds they start off cheating

Rockhound
I happened to be in Las Vegas once. Me and a mate put $20 each down on roulette and won about $200 each. One guy saw we were having luck and asked us if he could follow our bets and he must have won around $20,000. I don't gamble - that was the first and last time I ever did. I went to the bog half way through and was followed and watched all the way by one of the suits. I asked him if he was queer and told him in no uncertain terms that I wasn't. My mate was approached by them as well and he was asked if he was such and such a bloke. You only have to look at the opulence of these places and realize that there is only one winner: And it isn't the gambler. To me counting cards isn't cheating - it's a legitimate skill which those who can do it can use to increase their chances of winning. They like one guy winning a million once a year so that they can splash his picture and his big win all over the media and the billboards. In my opinion only mugs gamble. spidermike007
Congrats to Affleck. ANYTHIING anyone can do to get over on a casino is a benefit to society. They are parasite organizations, and the entire setup is rigged against the gambler. So, if someone can get over on them, I think that is wonderful. There is nothing illegal about what he did. Just smart. And these dickweeds do not like smart gamblers. They might lose money! Oh my God, we lost money. Kick him out for life. He beat us. Heaven forbid. Carmine6
Pure publicity stunt to get him attention. That's why a source "close to Affleck" released it and not someone who had witnessed it or some other third party. Does this really sound like something a security guard would say to him? It wouldn't be the security guard booting him out of the high stakes area, it'd be someone a whole lot higher up the chain. "You are too good," a security guard told the Oscar-winning star Monday night, the source said. Do you actually believe the stuff you make up? Affleck is one of the best know, well paid movie stars in the world. He doesn't need to pull stupid publicity stunts to get attention. And where in the story does it say that the security guard made the decision to boot him out? I could be wrong, but yes I do believe it. A list stars plant stories all the time, or spin situations all the time. It's a huge non-secret. This guy is trying to get a reputation as a poker player and those stories have been leaking out for years as well. And I never said the security guard made the decision to boot him out. I mean you would never have a security guard boot out an A list actor from a high stakes area, you have someone else do the talking, and escorting out. bendejo
Any contention favors the house, at least in US casinos. The house makes the call, and that's that. With multi-deck shoes and random reshuffling I thought card-counting was a thing of the past. Edited May 4, 2014 by bendejo

haveaniceday
I dont see it as cheating in anyway...if a person has the talent to count cards good for them, i rather see it as the casino is cheating by banning such people. I agree, we are not talking about electronic gadgets here.

Basil B
<script type='text/javascript'>window.mod_pagespeed_start = Number(new Date());</script> When I used to stay at HR Hotel , the employees loved BA, but at the time he was going with J Lopez, and they told me she would always take back the Big Tips he gave the employees, when he wasn't looking, they despised her... Sound like my ex TGF <script type='text/javascript'>window.mod_pagespeed_start = Number(new Date());</script> You understand that casinos typically use a "shoe" that contains 3-5 decks of cards that is reshuffled no less than halfway through to maintain random odds against winning that always favors the House. The House has the right at anytime to replace the decks in the shoe. For someone to successfully use chips on the table to "count" cards you'd have to virtually cover the entire table with chips - that would be too obvious. If a single customer is able to run a streak of winnings, it has no overall impact on the house odds determined by the entire number of players for a 24-hour period. What the HRC got with Afleck is free advertising and intice people in to play their own "systems" of beating the house. I bet their is a person monitoring each tables CCTV and enters each card that is turned into a computer (or more probably they use similar software to Automatic Number Plate Recognition), when the pack gets too high the croupier is given a signal to shuffle the deck. May be they banned him because he look too intelligent and came from Massachusetts... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MIT_Blackjack_Team Edited May 5, 2014 by Basil B
