Got a lateral malleolus fractured few days ago, treated at Pattaya Bangkok hospital...
the orthophedist is waiting for the swelling to go down then will put me a plaster cast to keep for 5-6 weeks;
i'd like to avoid the plaster cast and instead id' prefer a semi rigid ankle brace: any idea where i can find one?
(like this or similar)

i already asked at Fascino's pharmacies in Pattaya area but they don't have such item.

thanks in advance for the replies

You can't replace a doctor's prescribed device with another just because you think you would be better or more comfortable.

In your case you risk malunion of the fracture or worst.

Assuming that is that Dr. Tongsuk treating you, you can speak openly with him, he's direct and approachable.

understood and agree, but as this accident is covered by my insurance i assume the hospital default procedure is to choose the cheaper solution (as it was for the wooden crutches): i know i can speak with the doctor and i'll surely do, tell him i'm willing to pay of my own pockets for the brace instead of the plaster cast, but i do suspect the hospital has limited availability of ankle braces models and the items are overcharged...

i'll let you know

Don't worry, BH will not choose the cheapest procedure especially when insurance is paying. Good luck.

You won't be able to buy a brace like that at a pharmacy or supply store, have to get it from a hospital. They have to be properly fitted and not everyone is a candidate for them.

Worth getting, for sure, if your ortho agrees it is adequate, since casts --> muscle wasting, shortening of ligaments etc which in turn causes pain and delay in return to normal function once the cast is off.
