There was another thread about this topic, but I thought I'd drudge it up again due to the lack of response.

I'm looking for Nystatin in BKK.

May also be named...

tystatin

mycostatin

Call around to my local pharmacies with no luck.

I'd prefer it in powder or oral suspension form.

Thank you.

According to the Mims Thailand it is sold under the name "Nystin" and made by Polipharm.

The composition is: Nystatin 100,000 IU, diiodohydroxyquinoline 100 mg, benzalkonium Cl 7 mg

This is for vaginal infections so may not be the form you are looking for.

'nystatin' is listed but there is no detailed information which means, usually, it is only available in combination with other molecules or "MIGHT"! be available in an unregistered form.

You need to find a pharmacy with a Grade A pharmacist and ask her to see if she has any preparations containing the medication that would suit your needs.

You do know this is a dangerous anti-fungal and should be taken with care?

Questions...

1) What do you mean by unregistered form?

2) Do you know how or where I might be able to find a grade A pharmacist here in BKK?

3) How is taking nystatin anymore dangerous than taking other antifungals.

4) I would like to use this for my bowels...not anywhere else.

I found this picture of a possible product containing nystatin.

First pic...

Thoughts on this product?

Thanks.

My assistant says the photo you show does serve your purpose but it would be best to get the medication from a pharmacy.

To avoid losing face many pharmacist who do not have a grade A standing will not inform you of this, they will simply say they can't order that medication or will refuse to look it up.

P and F pharmacies have grade A pharmacists and so does save drugs.

Some Boots will have and some wont. The Boots at Emporium has a grade A pharmacist.

Tystatin (the first picture) made by T.O. is indeed what you want and is the only oral form of nystatin here.

There are AFAIK no powder forms at all. A few cream forms but these are combined with other drugs.

A very large pharmacy should have this - try Fascinos's (near Siriraj), or the large pharmacy on Sukhumvuit near Soi 2, or South East Pharmacy on Sukhumvit road just west of Soi 15., or (if you live down that way) Roong Rote Pharmacy on Soi On-Nut about 40 meters into the soi.

Ask specifically for "TYSTATIN" and have it written down. Even the best pharmacies sometimes have people behind the counter who are nto fully trained pharmacists and will not recognize generic names.

If all else fails then contact the manufacturer/distributor and ask for the names of pharmacies they have supplied it to:

T.O. Chemicals

Tel: 0 2275 6053-9, 0 2277 4141, 0 2277 0187, 0 2693 1687-94 Fax: 0 2277 7350, 0 2693 1686

Do you believe that this form is ingestible?

Of course. It is intended for treatment of oral, esophageal or intestinal Candida.

Nystatin is not absorbed systemically. It acts only locally.

However, if your concern is for treatment of intestinal Candida (1) contrary to what many quack web sites say, this is not a common problem and on the rare occasions it is present , it does not cause the long list of symptoms some would have you believe. 2) Probiotics would be of as much or more benefit.

Thank you for your response Sheryl.

Related questions:

1) Do you think there is any harm in trying the nystatin for a week or two to see if my symptoms subside?

2) If so, how much of a dosage would you recommend? Gradually increase the dosage too?

3) What probiotics would you recommend that I could obtain locally here? Prices? Dosage?

Thanks you again.

intestinal Candida, Candida albicans if posing discomfort to,you, may be treated with fluconazole.

However, this drug can have adverse affects on your liver and I would only recommend this is the problem is SERIOUS. It will also work very well on vaginal Candida as well.

It won't hurt as long as you do not exceed the recommended dosage.

But it may I not help except maybe by a placebo effect. Intestinal/systemic candida is largely a quack diagnosis, very popular for a while, no science behind it whatsoever. (There never is in these diseases alleged to account for just about every possible symptom).

Probiotics:

  • Live yogurt -- unsweetened brands preferrably homemade such as can get at Villa etc. Or there is a new brand they have now at tesco called I think Yolanda.
  • Kimchee
  • Kefir grains - do a search in the health forum, long thread on this and some TV members who are very zealous about it.
  • Infloran - brand that can be bought at larger pharmacies.

If your symptoms are GI in nature and especially if you have recently taken antibiotics, probiotics is a good bet.
