Dear All,

I am looking for unlimited data/web access for my 2 laptops--in the states l use a Verizon broadband card

Also looking for unlimited calling minutes for my smart phone

And a limited or unlimited web plan for my phone

Do most apartments in Bangkok have Wifi ?

Thanks !

We use GSM/3G here so your equipment will have to be unlocked, capable of accepting a SIM and minimally support GSM900/1800 and 3G 850/2100.

We don't really have unlimited calling plans here, both pre-paid and post-paid accounts have a per minute fee, or included minutes after which you'll pay extra. Note that only the calling party pays for calls here, the called party does not pay.

Some data plans do offer unlimited internet access, but only in the sense that your speed is capped at 64 - 384 Kbps once you reach the volume associated (1 GB - 10 GB) with your plan.

Some apartments may have WiFi, obviously this will vary and the actual performance may be less than ideal for your requirements.

You could use a smartphone as a mobile hotspot to provide shared 3G access over WiFi for your devices, or you could use a MiFi (a sort of mini-3G/WiFi router).

Most of the carriers here offer unlimited data plans but reduce the speed after a certain cap like what lomatopo mentioned. My experience after reaching the cap, at least with True, is that the actual speed is nowhere close to the posted maximum speed but is painfully slow and sometimes just unusable. However, it's easy to order an extra GB or two if necessary. During usage within the cap I think True's 3G speed is the fastest of the big three, and their 4G LTE is faster still. I have also found TOT to be consistently fast (perhaps because hardly anyone uses their service) but I don't think they offer any kind of unlimited plan. iMobile uses TOT's network but when I used them I could almost swear they inflated my usage data.

Mobile carriers also have Wifi hotspots around BKK. True has the most by far, AIS only a limited number and DTAC hardly any. I pay an extra B100/mo on my mobile plan with True for this service. Lucky for me, there's a hotspot in front of my condo building. With an outdoor router and high gain antenna, I get ADSL speeds at home for cheap, he he.

I always forget about public WiFi. Yes True WiFi has some 100,000 WiFi hot-spots throughout the country. You can purchase monthly unlimited access for 300 baht. Some TrueMove H pre-paid mobile data plans include free unlimited WiFI use, while others allow you to add this onto a pre-paid plan for 150 baht/month.

AIS is affiliated with 3BB WiFi, and they claim some 60,000 WiFi hot-spots throughout the country.

AIS does include free unlimited WiFi in some of their mobile data plans - but this may now only cover their own hot-spots - not including 3BB, or you can purchase monthly access, which is discounted if you are an AIS customer, for 99 baht /month and would include the 3BB services.

And you could purchase service directly from 3BB: http://wifi.3bb.co.th/

DTAC has very few public WiFi hot-spots, and no affiliation with any WiFi providers.

Actually TOT does have what is truly a 3G unlimited data plan called "Perfect Storm," but it's kind of slow: B790/month for 1Mbps download speed, or B990/month for 2Mbps download speed.
