Armed forces, ministries send representatives to meet acting Senate speaker

BANGKOK: -- The armed forces and key ministries sent representatives to a meeting with acting Senate speaker Surachai Liengboonlertchai at Parliament on Thursday afternoon.

Surachai held a closed-door meeting with the representatives that started at 1.50pm.

Gen Chatchawal Khamkaset, director of the Secretariat Department, represented the Defence Ministry at the meeting.

Other representatives included Deputy Supreme Commander Gen Worapong Sagnanetr, Army Chief-of-Staff Gen Aksara Kerdphol, Navy Chief-of-Staff Adm Thaweewut Pongpipat, and Air Force Chief-of-Staff ACM Treethos Sonjaeng.

The ministries that sent representatives to meet Surachai included the Interior Ministry, the Justice Ministry, the Science Ministry, the Education Ministry, the Industry Ministry, the Agriculture Ministry, the Natural Resources and Environment Ministry, the Social Development and Human Security Ministry, and the Culture Ministry.

The Budget Bureau also sent its representative to meet Surachai.

Appointed Senator ACM Weerawit Kongsak, the chairman of the Senate committee on coordination for solving political problems, said the Senate would like to hear from senior government officials about the problems they are facing in their work at the present time.

Weerawit said the Senate also wanted to listen to opinions as to how to tackle economic and security problems.

Perhaps a gentle nudging of people and ideas is at last starting to happen. Of course the rabid supporters of all involved in this current protest will all no doubt be baying like hounds scenting a kill.

This current bout of political constipation certainly needs a strong laxative to move it before it builds up even more back pressure then explodes cover us all in a fallout of political fecal matter.

Staring at large scale civil war or at the absolute minimum an armed insurection to dwarf the one in the south if they dare.

They will no doubt be discussing whether or not they will be able to enforce anything or survive a backlash. The good of the Country will not be an issue, only "Can we pull it off?" They could be brave and try, but I can't see any amnesty in future for treachery of this kind once they are overthrown. (asuming they go ahead with it).

My money is they'll back down as they are too few and they'll be hanging themselves and thailand out to dry indefinately should they try it.

One thing to announce a PM and quite another to mae it work, enforce it or bring about peace.

To the utter horror of Pheu Thai supporters, people are actually meeting and talking in civilized orderly discussions that are aimed at trying to reach some sense of understanding of the situation. Mature discussions, of course, have already been banned by Jatuporn, and CAPO considers them highly distasteful. Prompong's autocratic instincts are deeply affected by free discourse and it gives Thida the trots. The Senate is actually conducting a whole series of discussions and it seems many from both the military as well as government institutions are meeting. Prompong will have to impeach a lot today. He's already exhausted half the telephone directory. Prompong and Jatuporn are already musing about the good old days - when people could be so easily intimidated. It's so much harder now, with far too many mature people afoot. But this is what happens when Phue Thai refuses to take part in discussions. They manage to, but spend the rest of their energy in a fruitless attempt to get everyone else to stop. But for those who are freely talking, and having mature civil discussions, and exchanging ideas - it seems they know a secret that Pheu Thai doesn't - and that is that talking is what will solve this crisis. You can opt to take part in it or not. That's their choice. But talking is what will solve this crisis.

at least this man is talking to everyone concerned not simply ignoring it like some. The only way this can be sorted out is through communication and not threatening everyone like the ptp and reds are doing. The ptp needs to pull in their headand capo as well, they also need to get a hold of their attack dogs the reds and stop them from killing everyone that disgrees with them. Until such time as the senate can sort out what the majority of thais want (the ptp and reds are not the majority by the way) and act on it this crap will continue.

You don't even need a mid term memory to remember the army getting lost in Cambodia on the wrong side of the boarder, letting their PAD masters get caught and imprissoned in Phnom Penh.

Or how about the the PAD were run out of town by the locals in Srisaket under their noses.

Or then the army were beaten back on Pan Fah bridge by the bare handed redshirts.

Or in 2010 the army getting lost in the small back streets and alleys of Klong Toey and not been able to shoot any civillians dead in that part of town despite most of them living there. AND then complaining they had inadeuate maps of the area.

Or the army base being overrun and all those guns stolen by the Muslims.

Pattani, even I don't need to go there.

Can't be many with any IQ whatever who could believe they could sieze power in the country and hand it to Suthep. Can there?

If the red shirts try to stop this it will be 'lambs to the slaughter' I can just see them futilely waving their sticks at the tanks trying to shoosh them away!!!.
