A Fence Machine. Twists the wires between the wooden staves and spaces them.

Is it for taking a core out of newly made cheese to test it for taste and maturity.

The grooves and shape lend itself to a sample take of some nature.

It's FID....used for splicing rope and wire rope?

I suspect some type of sample taker.

Don't think it's a cheese corer. The ones used by the workers in the cool stores where I grew up in NZ were open at the end like an apple corer. More like these ones.

That's close enough I reckon. Its for splitting logs. Although why you would not just swing an axe I do not know.

To quote from the source of the photo...

"This is a black powder wedge, it was filled with black powder,

placed into a drilled hole in the end of a log and then lit.

The resulting explosion would split the log into three pieces

if the wedge was in the center, into two pieces if it was offset."
