Hi,

I know the slow rule: 3 years working on work permit, get residence visa and wait 10 years for thai passport...

Is there a fast way? like dropping my own nationality for thai?

PR is anything but automatic and you must qualify for it. You can only apply after 3 full years on extension of stay. Citizenship is another large step with many requirements to be met. Do not believe renouncing your current citizenship would shorten this process; but also do not believe it has to be 10 years.

"3 full years on extension of stay"

Are you saying that staying is enough for applying for residence visa? I thought it needed 3 years of uninterrupted working visa!?

The 10 years is not something i know for sure. Heresay, as it is called, I believe.

That is the requirement for application but unless you have a good chance most immigration officers will advise you not to do so. Employment/tax payment is an important consideration so without it I suspect most would be told not to bother.

Some reason for not wanting to go home ? :o

Naka.

As a general rule, very few - if any - nations will allow their citizens to forfeit that nationailty if it means that the person will become stateless.

You could find yourself stateless,

and being ejected from Thailand for not having a valid passport.

Think twice!!

I am not intending on dropping my own nationality before I acceptance from thai. Thanks for the worries though!

I've realised long ago, that it makes no difference where you stay, as long as you can feel at home.

My own country is rich and clean compared to this country, but it lacks all the social contact and friendlyness thailand has. People are the most important assest to my life, not a car, house or any money for that matter. That's why my passport would not last a second if i was offered a thai one...

If I'm not mistaken, the application fee is more closer to 8000 baht now. And if accepted/selected will require another 200,000 fee to be paid.
