He was quoting about 10,000 about 2 years ago, 12,000 last year so...

Remote start means I can start it from inside my office and have a nice, cooled down car before I get in it.

Sounds like a ridiculous waste of resources to me. I just leave the car door open for a minute before getting in. Or park in the shade.

Remote start is more desired in cold winter locations where you can start the car and warm it up, and get the heating going. with out coming out in the cold, and snow. The AC come on almost immediately, so the advantage is minimal, especially in relationship to the cost.

I would also be concerned of how safe it is,with others being able to start your car , if they can find the frequency your starter works on. Though I dont know is that's a real concern since I know very little on the subject.

So the guy must be disabling the steering lock as well?

In up-market cars where keyless entry, start and stop is standard, the mechanical steering lock has already been supplemented by an electronically controlled mechanism. Not sure if this after market system simply completely disables the mechanical steering lock or adds some electronic actuation.

Good question. I will ask him about this.

Just checked. The steering lock is disabled if you install the system. This would put me off especially as it may affect the insurance.
