rickthailand Posted May 31, 2014 Posted May 31, 2014 we are in the middle of getting a schengen visa for my bf, just wondering has anyone here been through the process and was it hard/difficult we seem to have all the paperwork that is required. just curious about someone elses experience rick
theoldgit Posted May 31, 2014 Posted May 31, 2014 Indeed, you will get a better response in the Visa Forum.
7by7 Posted May 31, 2014 Posted May 31, 2014 Very easy if married and free. Only for the spouse, or other qualifying family member, of an EU national! The OP says 'bf' which presumable means boyfriend. Boyfriends are not qualifying family members; unless the couple have been living in a relationship akin to marriage for the required amount of time. There is no EU regulation on the length of this, each state is allowed to decide for itself. But the OP doesn't say what his nationality is. If he is not an EU national then the full rules and requirements will apply. Rickthailand, you may find Schengen Visa FAQ helpful.
khunPer Posted May 31, 2014 Posted May 31, 2014 Which Schengen country is you applying for entry in/do you live in – some are easier than others...

Also it would help to know what the visa is for - holiday - short specific visit - long specific visit - work - to settle - to study etc. If a short visit, make sure you show sufficient funds to support yourselves, check if you must have medical insurance. Make sure it is clear he will return and not overstay. I had a general visitor visa refused for my wife by the UK! If I ever apply again, I will use an agent to avoid the many traps that being totally honest will lead you. Good Luck

Not to mention all the paperworks to prepare for that, and the money to spend to have officials papers. Disgusting, revolting..... SInce we live together in Thailand, and we are happy !

Sorry to hear of your situation. The world changes, but often it seems not fast enough. I would recommend contacting an immigration advocate/lawyer in France to voice your dissatisfaction. They can be found in Google.Good luck my friend. 1
myluckythai Posted May 31, 2014 Posted May 31, 2014 wich country? what visa? do you have a regular income? etc. i done this with my lady for Holland, but theinformation provided is not sufficient to give any advice
rickthailand Posted May 31, 2014 Author Posted May 31, 2014 i am dutch and yes the visa is for my boyfriend, we apply at the dutch embassy and my boyfriend has enough funds. my sister is garanty for him and will invite him. we are going for 5 weeks just for a holiday. also my boyfriend owns half of a business and owns a house, i was just wondering if anyone else (gay) arranged the visa for his boyfriend(we are not married) my boyfriend is thai rick
laislica Posted May 31, 2014 Posted May 31, 2014 Thanks, I knew that the UK is outside Schengen but my point is still valid. The border control officers in all countries need to be reassured that the visitor will not overstay. In the future I would you an agent to fill in the forms. They know how to frame things to be successful. BTW, my wife now is a Spanish resident. She had many Schengen visas for work purposes and she always used an agent. Sent from my iPad using Thaivisa Connect Thailand
ronthai Posted May 31, 2014 Posted May 31, 2014 Depends on the OP, he/she is taking a BOYFriend, that might change something. Guess in Thailand there is No official marriage. As a Dutch Gay guy, I did take 2 guys (not at the same time) to Holland and it was very easy, but then that was 15 years ago. The first 1 sent back after 1.5 years and the second now has a Dutch passport and as far as I know lives Happily Ever After, with the next, or next guy.
Donutz Posted May 31, 2014 Posted May 31, 2014 The Dutch embassy in BKK is quite relaxed, so with proper preparation you should be allright. Most information can be found via the embassy website, the IND has an informative brochure too in Dutch (Kort Verblijf) and I think in English aswell. If for some reason you get a negative decision, read the reason(s), see if you can counter them and appeal (bezwaarschrift). Ones sexual orientation isn't something relevant at all. Hetero, bi, homo etc. all need to meet the same requirements. And with the Dutch I wouldn't worry at all that some officer finds any non-hetero relationship something that would somehow increase the risk of violating the visa rules. Veel plezier in Nederland (have fun in NL)!
Toscano Posted June 1, 2014 Posted June 1, 2014 It is probably more difficult if you both currently live in Thailand . When I lived in Italy I had my girlfriend come for a visit . She was refused a visa the first application , but a year later it was granted . I had to apply to my local authority for as special invitation form and guarantee that I would be responsible for her all the time she was in Italy . I had to supply the return air ticket and also bt150,000 for her to show in her bank account , she also had to have health insurrance . You and your boyfriend will have to something similar , other wise go to an agency that will arrange it all for you .
onthemoon Posted June 2, 2014 Posted June 2, 2014 It's quite easy. If your BF has a job (and being a shareholder in a company indicates so), and is going only for a vacation, he can apply on his own and will probably not need your support. My BF (now husband) did that several times when we travelled to Europe. His words: "If they don't accept me on my own, I don't want to go!". So I didn't help, and he didn't need my help. If he does not have sufficient funds to support his stay, or his salary is too low, you can guarantee for him, if you yourself have a decently paid job. However, he must convince the visa officer that he has reason to come back to Thailand. I went through this with a former BF. It wasn't difficult, but convincing the officer included showing pictures of previous trips we had conducted over the years, and that he had always come back to Thailand. If you are talking about a visitor visa (3 months), you still have to go through the hoops (the embassy will have a brochure outlining the documents), and a guarantor is needed who has to legally sign that he or she will be fully responsible. I have no personal experience with this. Let us know how it worked out. 1
rickthailand Posted June 18, 2014 Author Posted June 18, 2014 today the boyfriend got his schengen visa so excited so....europe here we come!!!! rick 2

onthemoon Posted June 18, 2014 Posted June 18, 2014 Congratulations! Now, is this a tourist visa or a visitor visa, and did you have to guarantee for him?

Did you appeal? As it's free and the denial seems unreasonable people really should do so. Try to strenghten the application add a supporting letter as a sponsor telling that you'll be traveling together and you will see to it that the applicant will return home, that there isn't an intention to overstay since the applicant has to go back to work/... etc. You should stand a good chanche to win the appeal since there would be little to no evidence from the embassy to show their is a risk of illegal stay, unclear travel goal, insufficient funds etc. Lawyers could be of help to. During a future application the French or other embassy may very well use the "you have been denied a visa before" argument as one argument in not granting the visa again...
rickthailand Posted June 19, 2014 Author Posted June 19, 2014 Congratulations! Now, is this a tourist visa or a visitor visa, and did you have to guarantee for him? it is a tourist visa i had my cousin garanty for him rick 1

Strangebrew Posted June 19, 2014 Posted June 19, 2014 When i first visited there I found at least the immigration officer I dealt with to be rude, but he could have been having a bad day. But other than that the trip was pleasant, Stayed in a hotel that was built in the 1700's
GoNavy Posted June 27, 2014 Posted June 27, 2014 (edited) Years back when I entered Holland by air I found Immigration to be somewhat rude. I had to literally show my cash to this judge looking fellow sitting at a high desk peering down on me. I was traveling with a boxed crystal chandlier and they were quite upset when sticking their arms in the box and getting their sleeves coated with stryofoam. I'm American. I have an issue with my own embassy. I can not for the life of me find out what the requirements are!! I have looked on the webpage. I have gone to the embassy and while there on other busy asked. Am told to go to another line and the folks there interview you. I use to live in Mexico and that was easy. The Thai Embassy website has a list of requirements. You do down the list and do them. Not the good ole US of A. I once saw where they wanted me to pay $50 for a package! . I do not know why it is so hard to get that information. I think they want to keep it fluid so as they can go on a case by case depending on how you look, smell, speak or whatever. Just getting a tourist visa seems to be so secrative. I do know they have this fear that there will be overstay. My own government is so behind the times with spending on tracking they put the blame on the visitor and not on their own lack of fairness. If it is easier that certainly escapes me. At least with Pres. Obama in office, so far I don't think sexual orientation is an issue. But the minions may not be so in tune.
