Guys, I have an older computer ... I still run XP SP3

Updated the memory to 2 meg (or gig, what ever is the standard) DDR2.

Was built maybe 8 years ago.

Sometimes, when it's been running all day I get this ...

Instead of this ...

Any thoughts on a fix?

Yes, yes, a new computer would be nice ... rolleyes.gif

When that happens, just press F5 or hit the REFRESH button in your browser.

Sometimes the browser doesn't receive all the information in a timely manner to properly render the page as intended. Hitting refresh tells the browser to try again.

Why this happens more often after it's been running all day....

While you could try

  • Check the reliability of your DNS, or just use Google's DNS: 8.8.8.8 / 8.8.4.4
  • Defragmenting your hard drive
  • Optimize Win XP, TCP/IP Optimizer, Disable Indexing Service, Cleanup System Registry
  • Optimize cooling -- clearing the dust, replace or add fans
  • Running anti-virus and Malware cleanup

but you'd probably be better off buying a new PC. Lucky You

The css isnt loading properly. Unlikely to be anything to do with the age of your PC as such.

You might like to try:

emptying your browser's cache

updating your browser

installing a different browser

uninstalling and reinstalling your current browser

restarting your router daily

using 8.8.8.8 or 8.8.4.4 as one of your DNS settings

updating/changing your antivirus, especially if this has a built-in firewall/internet protection

If this only started recently and you are on CAT then it may be due to a problem at their end.

Thanks for all the suggestions above.

Because of them, I can add some more information.

I currently run FireFox and the browser is up to date, the notifications come automaticially. We are at v.24 or v.25 now?

Then a week later they send out the fix patch V25.1) ... I udpate that also.

The browser is set to delete history etc on closing.

I have cCleaner and run it every day.

I Run anti-virus and Malware cleanup.

Cooling I don't think is an issue, ambient air temp here is low as we approach winter and the house is not heated.

Change browser to Firefox. Two Firefox add-ons of interest to that problem:

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-us/firefox/addon/empty-cache-button/

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/re-start/

Download, install, run CCleaner (slim version).

Otherwise, wot they said above.

I just downloaded that 'empty cache button' and will test it at the next re-start.

What does the 'restart' addon do?

I read the page about it, but still none the wiser.

Thanks

Those screenshots indicate that your web browser was unable to load the CSS files used to style this site. That's going to be either a bad internet connection, or bad DNS.

Thanks for all the advice, I'll humm along for today and see if there is a problem later.

Jsixpack, that 'empty cache button' is a real winner as it makes my pages 'scroll' quicker. (don't know is scroll is the correct term)

thanks for that tip ... thumbsup.gif

That most of the website contents is missing

It also happens when the cache is full

Clean it up!

Or your harddrive is out of space

Trash the bin, defrag your hard drive, and delete all in nesarsary temp files

Years ago I used the programm chleansweep for thid!

Should be still avalible!

I see your problem on my almost brand new, whiz bang, Lenovo i7-based laptop (running Win 8.1) and my 8 year old Toshiba Celeron based laptop sometimes (before running XP but now Win 7). ThaiVisa is usually the only site that does it to me, but occasionally it may occur on another site. It only seems to occur when the international speed are down, like late in the evening. I just refresh/reload the page and all is fine. And if it starts occurring too often I will switch to a VPN connection to get a faster international connection and the problem is gone.

I do defrag the harddrive, so I know that's not an issue.

Please don't laugh at me but I've had to search ...

bad DNS

sysad position

Plus I will have to research 'Optimize Win XP' ... if I get stuck, I'll come back to you guys.

Again ... thanks for the assistance thus far ... thumbsup.gif

Same here ThaiVisa is the only site that does it to me for the past year or more, even when I 1st switch on in the morning, on my old laptop and brand new PC.... [other topics about this suggest it's a problem with TRUE network...... no other option where I live]

now switch VPN to Singapore or UK = never a loading problem.

With that 'Optimize Win XP'

I just did ...

Reduce Visual Effects. Windows XP can look good, but displaying all the visual items can waste system resources. To optimize, go to Start, right click My Computer, and go to the Advanced tab in the Performance area and click Settings, then choose "Adjust for best performance".

I sometimes do a clear cache, good in itself esp when some anomaly occurs; then, if Firefox has been running for, like, days, I do a quick restart, which often helps. For one thing, Firefox has always had a memory leak. It's gotten better over the years but I think hasn't been totally fixed.
