Cops closing GoGo Bars in Pattaya

Featured Replies

Happened to be in Soi LK in pattaya at 2:30pm today and the cops are running around en masse telling all the GoGo bars that usually open at 2pm daily to shut down and they could open at 8pm tonight.

On the ride home I noticed many bars on Diana were also closed.

Hope it's not a sign of things to come.facepalm.gif

Fair is fair. Aussies were the first in Pattaya. Tahitian Queen Pattaya's first go go opened 3 years after the Americans left Thailand in 1978. Sailors started visiting Thai ladies in 1624. http://www.nationmultimedia.com/2007/07/23/lifestyle/lifestyle_30041864.php

I wish the cops or military would close D Boom bar near my house on Third (close to the Buffalo Bar)! Since the start of the curfew the nights have been wonderfully tranquil. Before the coup D Boom used to thump away noisily until just after 7AM. Not amusing.

No 1 should be going to agosgos at 230 anyways..............lol.

ps. I think closing agosgso @ 11pm or so is a good thing. The girls show up for work earlier. B efore the curfew they usually trickled in en masse @9pm. Now a lot are there @ 730.

Nope. The baht was 25 to the dollar when the GI's were here. Actually the first big wave of inflation came when the Europeans began to come in the late 1970's. Americans have nothing to answer for except building the infrastructure so you can enjoy Thailand as opposed to Laos and Burma and Cambodia. Americans built roads, deep water ports, airports, telephone system and funded and left equipment to build technical colleges that were the basis of the Thai Auto industry among others. In case you didn't know it, Thailand won the Vietnam war when you consider lives and property lost as opposed to financial gain.

Place was dead during the Vietnam R&R days. I know I was in Thailand then.

Pattaya was never an R&R destination; there may have been some GIs who came down from their R&R in Bangkok, or AF folks from Utapao, but Pattaya was never a major destination.

Not sure if related but the alcohol bulk shops around me all closed for 2 days.

May be have something to do with no alcohol sales during certain hours and with the lack of leadership at Pattaya station and pressure from the army they enforcing the law

Why not? Since the coup it's been nice having a greater choice during the afternoon. I don't see why the cops should be closing anything. "Daytime is playtime."

I was in infantry in Vietnam and never got my R&R - a grenade got me a couple of weeks before I was scheduled to go, so my R&R was spent in a series of military hospitals...nowhere near as much fun as Thailand would have been...heh

The Baht was not 25 to the dollar then it was 20.

Yes like building the airports, roads, dams and sea ports; nasty Americans.

When I arrived in Pattaya in 1978, there was only beach road and there were a few shops and a few thatched bungalows.

Americans left in 1975. American R&R for Vietnam troops was Bangkok.

This is very disturbing news. No go go bars open until 8pm!

The world is coming to an end.

Not hating. Only passing on bad information. Like American liberals.

The Baht was not 25 to the dollar then it was 20.

In 1978 it was 20/1. Did not go to 25/1 until 1984.

No decent girl is going 2 show up at 2.30. get over it.............lol.

Any nonsensical excuse for yet another anti-America bash will do, eh. Trollin' trollin, trollin'--keep them doggies trollin' . . . .

The origins of Pattaya have been discussed repeatedly ad nauseam w/ testimonials from countless witnesses. Do a forum search for the full monty. The conclusion is always the same: sadly, the good ol' US of A can't claim credit for the development of Pattaya's unique wonderfulness.
