Municipal staff begin to demolish the taxi sala opposite the Diamond Cliff Resort.

PHUKET: Tourists watched fascinated this afternoon (June 24) as Patong Municipality staff, guarded by police and Navy Marines armed with semi-automatic weapons, started pulling down one of Patong’s most noticeable taxi salas.

The sala, along with a variety of scruffy shacks that lined the sidewalk opposite the Diamond Cliff Resort, came down easily after a backhoe was brought in to add to the human muscle.

Kathu police and marines from Tap Lamu Naval Base later strolled along Patong Beach talking with beach chairs renters to see whether they had any information, opinions or complaints about the clearing up of illegal activities on Phuket.

Some more good news, but unless they address the pricing structure set by the monopoly, the dismantling of taxi salas will have little positive effect for tourists, and the tourism industry.

The sala dismantled outside Kata Beach Resort last week is more of less back again complete with big sign board of taxi tour prices.

I don't think that one was dismantled, since it is meant for people waiting for the bus. I do see the taxi drivers sitting in plastic chairs outside the sala there now.

You can still contact the POlice/Army for tip-offs, as per the site that must not be mentioned. This would be a loss of face, THAT will get some action!

The Bangkok Post mentioned that also.

Cleaning up of illegal activity on Phuket........ mmmmm. Ok start with Tuk Tuks, then landlords and key money on premises then take your pick at the rest.
