World Cup, unsavoury moments - the Sunday Roast!

Featured Replies

Each Soccer World Cup will be remembered by it's winner.

But also for some unsavoury moments .. the Zidane headbutt in 2006 comes to mind

Obviously the Suarez springs to mind ... but that has been discussed to death.

But what about this Tournament?

Standard of refereeing? Was that a hand ball or a legit goal by Brazil today?

The crowds at the game add the atmosphere ... how have they behaved?

I read that some Fans wearing blackface makeup at Arena Castelao stadium for the Germany versus Ghana game. Behaviour like this has led to an investigation of racial discrimination.

And that idiot Polish man accused of being a neo-Nazi supporter who ran the field during that same match.

I reckon the TV coverage has been first class.

So ...

  • On-Field Incidents?
  • Refereeing?
  • Fan/Crowd behavior?
  • TV Coverage?
  • Something else?

Have your beef here ... the Sunday Roast!

.

Would like to see a rule change that would allow each coach to be able to challenge an official call 1 time each half...using TV replay from different angles to make the final call...

Also. would like to see a coach be allowed to call at least one timeout per half...

It would be nice to see players on their feet instead of diving from a simple bump. I would love for the floppers to face stricter punishment if caught, maybe 3 games to start and increasing penalties for repeat offenders.

From what I've observed from afar, the fans have been great. It's great too see tens of thousands of folks, mostly youngsters, have a blast. They'll have fun memories to last a lifetime.

A thousand times NOpost-4641-1156693976.gif . The flow of the game is one major thing that separates football from so many sports.

Games are won and lost...teams eliminated and teams progress...because of errant calls made by officials...there is no mechanism in place to challenge an obvious wrong call...Bad calls should not determine the outcome of the game...

Players flop to the ground because of dehydration and exhaustion...not because of severe contact with another player...a 2 minute time out could eliminate many game stoppages...due to players pretending to be hurt...

The flow of the game...and the outcome...would become more realistic...

This World Cup will be remembered for the unsavoury behavior of a South American (Suarez)...... just like the 78 World Cup (Quirgoa)..... and the 86 World Cup (Maradona).... and the 90 World Cup (Rojas)...... and the 94 World Cup (Maradona again).....and the 2002 World Cup (Rivaldo)......

There seems to be a pattern developing here.....

Time outs take care of themselves when you have players apparently at death's door being tucked in and carried off the field in the cot only to rise like Lazarus the moment the game's restarted. laugh.png

Fifa have already granted drinks breaks in mind of player safety in high temperatures.
