Transport Ministry prepares for three-day weekend

BANGKOK, 9 July 2014 (NNT) – The Ministry of Transport (MOT)is preparing to facilitate the activities of holiday makers during the three-day weekend on the occasion of Asarnha Bucha Day and Buddhist Lent Day.


After chairing a meeting on public preparations for long holidays, Soithip Trisuddhi, the permanent secretary of the MOT, announced that 11 service centers will be jointly established nationwide by the Department of Land Transport and the Ministry of the Interior.

Furthermore, the Department of Highways which has offices nationwide including the Highway Offices, Maintenance Offices, and Provincial Highway District Offices, will provide convenience for traffic, and anywhere undergoing construction will be controlled in order to prevent obstructions by machinery and tools. Road contractors are advised to suspend their work temporarily, in order to help traffic flow smoothly.

Meanwhile, the Transport Company is planning to add 900 trips to its 5,800 trips daily. It is expected to serve about 1.4 million passengers per day. And, the State Railway of Thailand (SRT) is preparing to add 50 bogies to cater for 5,000 passengers per trip.

Just saw this in the news section Don't forget that Thai Immigration will be closed on Friday & Monday

I planned on a trip to Savannakhet on Monday to the consulate and it seems like they are closed so I guess a 4 day weekend.
