Looks like it's also known as "Huay Kaew Waterfall" funnily enough.

No, it's up from there. Look at the very map you posted. ;)

You can go up the main road, and there is also a walking trail that passes Bua Ban and continues to the Pha Ngoeb cliff. Very nice walk. Also no entrance fees, and you can bring pets. It's basically dog heaven. (For proper dogs like Labradors and the like that enjoy a good romp through the forest & swim.)

Why do these maps always leave off one of the most interesting temples in the area? Wat Palad is nowhere to be seen on these maps. From the Chiang Mai Zoo entrance, it is a 70 minute walk uphill (approximately) and on your left as you walk uphill. There is a sign in English 500 meters before the temple, but the sign at the temple is in Thai only and you need to walk down the driveway to find the interesting parts, including a nice waterfall.

A much nicer way to get there is to use the nature trail at the top of the Suthep Road. Look for the signs saying "Wat Palad Nature Trail" and look for the rear entrance to the Chiang Mai zoo. You will find the path when you reach the end of the road. Head up and when you come to a crossing it doesn't really matter which path you take since if you take the wrong path, it quickly rejoins the correct path.

About ten minutes up the path, there is an alternate route which starts by going downhill. I suggest avoiding this route since it is much less interesting as a hike.

What makes it interesting?

These pictures don't do Wat Palad or the hike to Wat Palad justice, but they will give you some sense of what it is like. If you go there mid-week, you might be the only non-monk on the hiking trail or on the temple grounds. That's what makes it interesting to me.

I found this with a quick google search. There might be a lot more information out there about the place. I've spoken to Thais who have lived here their entire lives who have never heard of the place. Parts of it are clearly over 100 years old. As with many temples, the donations continue to flood in so there are now a lot of new structures that were not there even just five years ago.
