Thailand calls for Israeli-Palestinian peace talks

BANGKOK, 16 July 2014 (NNT)-The Foreign Ministry Permanent Secretary Sihasak Phuangketkeow, also serving as acting foreign minister, has called on Israel and the Palestinian representatives to resume peace talks.

Mr Sihasak said Thailand did not want to see the situation worsen as it would affect the lives of innocent people, particularly children. He said there are a number of Thais currently working in Israel.

In the ongoing conflict, every representative group, especially the Quartet should play a role in peace talks being resumed in the controversial situation.

The Quartet on the Middle East or Middle East Quartet, sometimes called the Diplomatic Quartet or Madrid Quartet or simply the Quartet, is a foursome of nations and international and supranational entities, involved in mediating the peace process in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

The Quartet are the United Nations, the United States, the European Union, and Russia.

The acting Thai Foreign Minister reaffirmed that the situation does not require the evacuation of Thais from Israel at the moment, however, authorities at the Royal Thai embassy, Tel Aviv are in close contact with the Thai citizens and have an evacuation plan prepared.

Maybe Thailand could be a hub of peace-talks, and spread some of that amazing "Thainess" around. The world would be a better place for it.

Meanwhile more Thai people die on Thai roads each year than all the people who have died in the Arab Israeli conflict during the last 3 decades. Just what are the chances of a Thai working in Tel-Aviv being hit by a homemade rocket fired from Gaza?

In the agricultural sector in the settlement areas. Under what many consider to be slave like conditions. You didn't know?

Yes most in farming. I have no idea of the percentage working in the West Bank vs. the main part of Israel. Do you have statistics you can supply? As far as pay and conditions, I am not aware that the conditions and pay there are particularly overly harsh by global standards for imported farm workers. Do you have evidence of that?

Probably could not point to either on a map

Nor vice versa- might confuse it with Taiwan or refer to it as Siam, since it isn't exactly a player on the world stage to say the least!

I reckon most Israelis know full well where Thailand is. Many workers from Thailand and Philippines in Israel and Thailand is of course a very popular travel destination for Israelis, especially backpackers after doing national service.

As far as foreign policy advice from Thailand being taken seriously by players in the Palestinian-Israeli conflict ... fat chance of that. It's just a PR thing.

Why not, I have met Thais who can speak Hebrew.

There are many Thais in Israel working in the Kibbutz as farmers.

In March 2010 a Thai national was killed by a Palestinian rocket and as the Kibbutz is sometimes targeted, the Thai government have a right to be concerned over this conflict.

A bunch of links?!?

So what percentage in the West Bank?

Where in those links does it show percentage in the west bank?

Before you implied they were mostly there, so can you point to a specific quote in a source actually saying that statistically?
Where in those links does it suggest farm worker standards in Israel are worse than in many countries, for example Mexicans in the USA?

Maybe you are right about both points. I don't know. I still don't know.

No, I'm not suggesting being an imported farm worker is heaven on earth anywhere in the world, in Israel or anywhere.

Anecdotal and subjective.

Based on the knowledge and proficiency of Thais in the whole of Thailand, if Thais are in Israel working in the fields as farmers/laborers one would reckon they do not come from the halls of Thammasat or Chulalongkhorn, but Isaan or the South.

If English posses a monumental challenge to most Thais, will Hebrew be easier to command by them?

A few exceptions do not a rule make.

And who said that a few exceptions make a rule?

I was merely pointing out that a Thai in Israel speaking Hebrew was not impossible, whereas you questioned this possibility.

Waste of breath and time. Israel does not want a fair peace, for while hostilities continue, they can continue to build settlements and kill Palestinians, both things Israel likes doing.

The ONLY peace Israel will agree to is 100% their terms, ie something like "All established settlements, Golan Heights, all already conquered land, all of Jerusalem, and all un-settled Palestinian land with aquifers to become part of Israel officially.. Also, to continue to blockade Gaza, and for the UN not to admit Palestine as a sovereign state.

Bastards

garbage total garbage.

Shouldn't Thailand clean up its house first before asking Israel and the Palestinians to get their house in order? Or is Thailand doing this just to deflect attention from itself?

So far it is the Hamas refusing a ceasefire...

As for peace negotiations, not that I think that the Israeli government is that interested or genuinely looking forward to it,

they had a lot of help from the actions of the Palestinians. Definitions of "fair" are really different depending not only which

side formulates them, but also who specifically on each side.

There are no illegal settlements in Gaza Strip, and no major new settlements being built in the West Bank. Issues now are

more to do with expansion of existing illegal settlements to accommodate a larger population. While still wrong, it is not

exactly about major new land grabs.

You do realize that the Palestinian position on the negotiation is neither unified, nor wholly reasonable as well, right? And

that both sides pose impossible conditions making progress harder than it already is?

Wonder how Thailand would react to international calls for peace talks on the southern insurgency issue...

Probably some indignation over foreigners meddling in its affairs.

The last time I heard, The United States of America has not had a coup and has an ELECTED Black president (popular or not) sitting in the White House. Not the case with Thailand. Doh! The USA Armed forces are under the control of the POTUS... ha ha...

Thailand calls for peace talks between Israel and Palestine.

How about Thailand sorts out its own conflict in the south first!
