Playing MP3 files on car CD player

Featured Replies

Standard CD players often fail to read MP3 files burned onto discs. This is the case with my car CD player which, although it states it will play MP3 format, can't actually do so with the CDs I've burned myself.

Do fellow forum members know of players that will do this? Or ways to get round this?

I have a CD player in my car radio as opposed to a dedicated CD player, and have no trouble playing "burnt" CD's in MP3 format, but all have the same problem of bouncing tracks on rough ground. CD's have a problem with storage in the car and are affected by heat which can cause other problems.

I use the USB port in the radio, and have found this a brilliant way to carry 100's of hours of music. The radio/CD was a cheap Panasonic..5000 baht installed at Kuangsingh next to the Grandview hotel.

Another option for burning CDs for the car is Imgburn (http://www.imgburn.com/). An excellent free program with no string attached.

You can burn MP3 folders of music onto the CD and it just works as long as you don't try and squeeze too many albums on them.

Or for around three hundred baht you can buy a FM transmitter from Tesco or any other shop that sells car parts. Plug it into the cigarette lighter socket and tune it into the same frequency on FM radio.

They take USBs or SD cards and work well for a few hundred baht. I had countless CDs fail over a month or two until I switched to one of these. In my opinion these are far better than CDs. Put all your music on a USB or SD card regardless of format, MP3, WAV or FLAC and these play them.

I bought one of these from the Amorn shop in Lotus. Couldn't get it to work. The staff even came to my car and tried valiantly to make it, and a replacement one to work, but couldn't. They graciously refunded me.

I ALS had earlier tried one from Bilken that I'd bought in HK. Didn't work either.

Wish I knew why.
