Popular Post shocky2004
I honestly think the best way right now to pay a fine without a problem AND to come back is via North airport (CMX International). For those of you that readed my post where i ask for help about my friend, well we went to airport today and are now in Cambodia. The whole process has been great overall (long though, it took around 30-40 minutes.) And it's at the moment (correct me if i'm wrong) THE ONLY PLACE where nobody has been refused entry. The first question my friend got asked was 'Do you want cofee?' and the officers just laughed. BUT they told him that the rules are coming VERY soon and they won't joke anymore with overstayers. By the way, an overstay of 10 DAYS will be a year ban. So forget all the talk about the 90 days, it's gonna be 10 days (and i know cuz i've asked the officer myself and she showed me the official paper.) The told us that basically right now Thailand don't want to just kick out everyone that made a mistake and not give them a chance. She clearly said that Thailand is (by not applying the law right now) giving a chance for people to get the right visa but you have to handle your sh*t NOW.So to everyone who's on overstays or know someone, go CMX. Trust me.

Popular Post shocky2004
I mean i went there this morning... the only reason why i'm typing this here is cause maybe some folks are in the situation my friend was in or they knopw someone and i'm trying to help out.Indeed when i said 'no one got refused entry' i mean't when they got back with a visa from a thai embassy in another country. To go out obviously there's no problem (as it's what they want, you to go out lol) but the problem was more about people worrying about maybe being blacklisted. You won't get blacklisted. But go out ASAP.
Popular Post KevinB
I'm loving some of the problems that seem to be popping up all of a sudden - and I suspect they are going to get worse and worser (sic) - I wonder how many of those affected are still such BIG supporters of the sudden regime change now????? Back then when everyone was so happy to see the back of the lady PM - a few of us did warn that things might change for the worst. NancyL
This assumes that someone on overstay has the funds to fly out, someplace to go, and is physically/mentally able to make the trip. Unfortunately, I know at least half a dozen people on overstay in Chiang Mai that don'/aren't able to utilize the fine hospitality of the Houghton, Michigan (oops -- Chiang Mai) airport (I've actually been to Houghton, MI!) to get themselves out via the northern route. There are amazing similarities between the two airports, I've often thought. Edited July 18, 2014 by NancyL

Pattszero
The OP - who appears to be a very nice person indeed - has overlooked a small but some may say, vital detail. His friend has not returned yet. He may find a less friendly welcome at CNX next time round. I hope not - and I look forward to an update.
Popular Post al007
Again all this negativeness we should be grateful on people posting about the possible new regulations It appears pretty likely from August 12 that things will change for overstayers, so why take the risk, you have been given the time and space to clean up your act It is so obvious to me, and probably any lawyer if you are on overstay, rectify while you can, if I am wrong at least you have become legal and do not have to worry about being illegal But then I have tried to live my life on the legal and moral side of the street, and maybe just do not understand the mentality of the other way
ubonjoe
I think they only showed you half the paper. They only showed you the part about being apprehended with an overstay. If you are caught with an overstay it is a ban. Voluntarily at the airport there is no ban it your overstay is less than 90 days.

Mario2008
The paper has been published on Thaivisa and is also on Phuket immigration website. But it is still a proposal, that hasn't come into effect yet. As Ubonjoe pointed out, it makes a big difference if you are caught with an overstay or report yourself. In the last case you will not be banned if the overstay is less than 90 days.
Emster23
I too signed the overstay paper at immigration when doing my 90 day check in. This seems to be a time where the left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing. So what else is new? What we might call "a fluid situation". They showed me a my friend a paper this morning and it was CLEARLY stated: Overstay over 10 days = 1 year ban This is what was on this paper can't tell you more, hope it's clear enough... Yesterday, I met with the Superintendent of Sub-Division 2, Division 1 at Chaengwattana and four of his colleagues. I was provided with the latest overstay information. I have the two pages of information that was submitted to the Ministry of Interior for approval. The approval takes approximately 60 days. Nowhere on this page is there a 10 day overstay = 1 year ban. If you overstay more than 90 days and surrender, then you're banned for a year. Mario is correct in that there will not be a ban on those who overstay less than 90 days. I'm not saying you didn't see what you say you saw but as soon as I have a little time I will show the papers I was given as well as some other interesting details. Yes, as I said in a different thread, a lot of people were applauding the implementation & application of stricter rules and regulations under martial law when it affected Thai people (taxi drivers, jet ski operators, buildings erected on public land, etc), but when it means farang also have to get with the new & improved scheme of things, the applause dropped off. If you are for less corruption and better law enforcement, it needs to be applied to everyone.

Pattaya46
Mario is correct in that there will not be a ban on those who overstay less than 90 days. This part is in contradiction with what Mario2008 posted just after your message, and that seems to be a part transcription of the scanned document we now have to sign at Immigration: "apprehended" + "overstay less than 1 year" => "ban 5 years". There is a long discussion already in another topic about this unclear point.

But I will have the most recent information posted shortly. I was given this yesterday afternoon and I believe it will be quite clear.
