Eric Loh
Just too many silly & poorly though out proposals gushing out to please the master. Plagarized from the social security scheme but big difference in a steady monthly income from employed workers and farmers who has no fixed monthly income. Income can aso come from crop rotation not necessary rice. So how to compute % of monthly income? This will never fly.

umbanda
Great News for a pension, but Why ONLY FARMERS, totally screwed up if that is the case. If someone is working in Thailand and paying into SS then they too will get a pension. My father-in-law gets paid each month, I think he gets around 1000B or 1500B a month. I understood that for farmers the Government will pay 1/2 of the contribution and that it is a very "socialist" measure. Farmers are self employees, owning or renting the land, or seasonal workers. I do not know any Government that pays any part of the Social Security contribution to self employees. May be an interesting concept. The maximum monthly retirement benefit for self employees after 60 y.o in Thailand is close to the offcial minimum salary. That is better than many "developed" countries like the US. The retirement benefit for a Thai Government employee after 35 years of service, is up to 70% of the last salary. That is a lot better than the US. A Thai Government School teacher, after getting free school and teaching degree, have to work at least 8 years in a school with salary starting at 9000THB/month to "pay" for that education, or pay back if not. After 35 years of teaching its salary may be around 30000THB/month or more. If working for the Government, most employees get free housing plus a lot of benefits, like free post graduated education, Masters and Phds. After 35 years of service, its retirement check may be around 20000THB/month. No bad. That is the main reason for so many uniformed women on the streets of Thailand...most from very modest families. Considering differences in the cost of living and minimum salary, Senior Government and Senior School employees in Thailand have better life and benefits that the same in many other "undeveloped" and "developed" countries. Unfortunately, doesn't happen with most farmers and farm workers. This is my conclusion after living in South America big part of my life, working for the City of San Diego in California for a while until 2010.....and dating a Chiang Mai City senior employee during 2011....daughter of modest farmers ... Thailand is an impredictable country, like its people.....and not easy to understand ...
