Long Term Property/Condo Rental In Phuket With Credit Card?

Featured Replies

Looking to rent via credit card as we get special points on the card if we do so.

We've already found a rental car company that will take CC so that's sorted but were wondering if anyone knew any nice places to stay that take cc for long term rental? Have been in touch with a few realtors but one just told us we would have to pay the whole year up front which we didn't feel like doing.

Anywhere in Kathu, Phuket Town or environs would be great. Looking for 2 bedroom or more. Thanks!

Thailand is not a very credit card friendly country. Cash is still the preferred method of payment. Yes, car rental places will take them as is assures if anything happens they can charge you. Stores that accept them usually will want to charge you a fee, since VISA or the bank charges them, same with a lot of hotels, if they even accept them.

Many will take CC, but may charge up to 3% on top to cover their fee's.

International Hotels usually cover this, but a long term rental - very unlikely

Don't mind paying the 3% fee so anyone know any places that accept this? I've run into the problem that you and Jimi above write about in that most places won't take CC for long term rentals.

You'll just have to ask... many landlords have other business's which can accept credit cards..

I do actually know of a bloke that paid everything up front on the credit cards from internet through to the accommodation, because he needed to get in quick before the credit card companies realised he had done a runner from the UK smile.png

HAHA Not in that situation thankfully but how did that end up for him? ;)

Probably waiting to be picked up for overstay!! Not seen him for a few years

get cash with card any atm or bank will do......

hand cash to landlord for rent ...

pay credit card statement at end of month..

done deal...

*not sure if you will get extra points this way depends on card, mine does*

Cash is king, never heard of landlords excepting credit card payment here or Australia

If they are going to declare the income it should not make a difference if they add on the

3% charged them by the C/C company

With the amount of X bar girls working in guesthouses, dive shops as reservationists and rental companies in Phuket, I would definately prefer to pay cash rather than my card being compromised

And quite often the exchange rate used is pretty bad. I've sometimes used a credit card at Bangkok Hospital, for example, and the charge-slip warns you how much it'll be when converted to US $ and believe me getting some points on your credit card won't make up for the extra cost in exchange rates.

If you plan to be here for any length of time, the O/P would probably be better off doing foreign transfers into a bank account and paying the landlord either in cash or by Baht bank transfer locally.

It does not 'warn you', it converts.

This is called Dynamic Currency Conversion, never accept this, it will always give a very bad exchange rate. Always pay in the local currency.

BTW, they are required to ask your permission to charge in the credit card home currency, simply refuse and demand to pay in Thai Baht.
