neverdie
Horrible, horrible people, paid a lot of money to come out of my addiction and now you made me relapse. Where is that bloody, gerbil, I kept for emergencies? Have you got your TGAU ready? He's only pretending that he gave up. I spoke to dispatch this afternoon and they told me they had several orders for the new Platinum plated TGAU, all to the same address with what appeared to be disguised names, MrKostas, Mr Khostas, Mr Ccostass and other combinations along those same lines. They were all paid for using a Badgers Express Card. and were mailed to the Costas farm up in Issan. So I think the game is up Costas, once a gerbilist, always a gerbilist.

swissie
Do you know how much they sell the offspirng for? A quote from my better half, "Cows are the number one easiest to take care and most money for sell." I believe the price is 9k per newborn and 15k per 18 month-old cow. They just eat grass. The problem is finding it sometimes. Folks, read the above and let it sink in. Astute investors will immediately conclude that by investing in cows the yield will be far greater than by investing in Pattaya condominiums! Cheers. sgtsabai
Most if not all the cows I've seen here are Brahma. I can only think it must be some sort of status, there doesn't seem to be any rodeos. I've seen some that look like "show" quality (oh crap what did I say). They do show them back in the states. Big money for the bulls. I should take some pictures and send them back to the "marshland cowboys" where I grew up (and was fortunate enough to escape from) for their thoughts as to breeding quality. These here seem quite tame, unlike those in the states, most of which would just as soon kill you as look at you. They are used extensively for rodeo stock. As far as a food source, practically useless, hamburger/ground meat. They are very hardy, You see a lot in the swamp/marsh lands of Texas, Louisiana etc. I don't believe any other species of cattle could survive out there with the gators, moccasins, mosquitos, bogs, etc.
Popular Post Geekfreaklover
Something to do with the fact that Hinduism is still rooted in the North East, take a look at the temple ruins etc, and the fact that the Brahmanism, Hindi and ancient Indian beliefs that all led to Buddhism are ingrained so deeply into these people that they know instinctively that it is a sacred animal, must be taken care of for no real reason, but when quizzed on it they can't quite explain why, because that might upset Buddha (who is by definition impossible to upset) motivates the upkeep of these bovines.I do know that there are several magazines devoted to the keeping of cows in Thailand, so there is some spiritual worth attached to the carer of cows. But the same can be said of buffaloes... With these tractors, who really needs them anymore?

NoBrainer
I think that most of them weren't Cows when they first married them, but after years of overfeeding and laying about, they turned into Cows. What I don't understand, is after coming to the realization that they are married to a Cow, why the hell do they bring them to Thailand for a holiday. Better to leave them at home me thinks. (Sorry, thought the OP was asking why people keep Cows, not why do Thai's keep Cows) Edited August 16, 2014 by NoBrainer

With these tractors, who really needs them anymore? I cannot speak to the degree to which Brahmanism may manifest in rural Thai villages. I do think that it is an interesting question. In the case of my family, a female cow was purchased by my sister in law at the slaughterhouse. She was purchased on her birthday, for tamboon, to make merit. She saved a life, in short. That cow knew it, too. Since then, after the passage of years, the family has prospered, and the mother cow was successfully bred, yielding two adorable bulls. These cows are family pets, they are as smart as dogs. They interact with their family with great affection. When I asked my wife if the cows were for sale, she was shocked. They are not for sale. In fact, measures were taken to safeguard them, because cattle rustlers have attempted to steal them on several occasions. The mother cow, in fact, refused to stay in her old manger, which was a distance away from the family home. She dug in her heels, and she insisted on staying near the home. So a new manger was built for her and for her offspring. They literally live beneath the family home, and are escorted to pasture and brought back home every day. Some family funds are expended on hay, but this cost is negligible. In sum, my family keeps cows for merit. It is quite beautiful.

mrfaroukh
I just read few lines of your comments. It is like saying why Western are keeping dog or cat in the house. The have to bear all sort of cost like health, tax, food, etc which is more expensive that those cows. They also have to take them out to pie etc. Why is it so difficult to understand other countries cultures? And the real answer to your question is that probably cow is holly for them just as it is for Indian. If you travel in India you will see cows on the road, and almost everywhere. They use them while possible and when useless they just leave them until they die. No one is allowed to kill them. You may not believe that MC Donald's in India are the only branch that they do not server Big Mac or any other meal with Beef. They instead are selling Chichen Maharani and other stuff. They do that just for the respect to those who believe in cow as a holly animal.

Robert24
My wife's father used to have some cows, I think only 5 or 6. He bought them when they were young and sold them when grown up. I'm sure it's about beef. Same with keeping some chicken or pig. Some farmers believe in keeping different animals and not specialise on just one thing. neverdie
Costas would get very excited in Australia, especially if he visited Anna Creek Station, largest cattle farm in the world. It actually covers more land than Israel. Many times bigger than the largest American Cattle Farm. 6 million acres, almost 10,000 square miles. Not many cows or people out there though.....hard country and hard men. The women are even tougher. Although their not milking cattle, Costas secrets would probably remain secret out there due to the lack of witnesses. I'm not sure how many badgers Anna Creek has though.
