My current 5 year driver's license expires on the 26th of November and my retirement visa expires on the 7th of January. I would like to spend November thru February in Phnom Penh. Is it possible to do early renewals so that I don't have to make special trips back to Thailand? Or at least, could I renew my retirement visa late November and make only one trip back to Thailand.

Behind this is that I would like to book a room in PP for the 3 months in order to lock up a room during high season and also get special rate for 3 months.

Thanks for any info/help you may be able to provide. biggrin.pngbiggrin.png

The earliest you can do your extension is 30 days or 45 days at some offices. You cannot do it late,

If I recall correctly you can do your drivers license 60 days early.

It just goes to show the different requirements in different Amphurs.

I went to renew my license a week before it was due, and was told to come back the day before expiry.

When the Thai wife and I got our 5 year licenses almost 5 years ago (they expire 31 Dec 14) here in Bangkok we were told by our Bangkok drivers license office that we could renew up to 90 days early. When I google on this subject I see ranges from 60 days early to 180 days early. Expect it may vary from drivers license office to drivers license office just like how some of the immigration policies seem to vary from immigration office to immigration office.

Expiry on DOB, go the day after you get 6 years but a day rather than 5 yearssmile.png

Regarding the retirement extension renewal, my experience has been that in most immigration offices you can apply 45 days early providing you can explain a reason why and have supporting documents to confirm your reason like airline tickets.

When calculating the 45 day count it is best to print out a calendar and count each day and write out the numbers in case you are told you come back as their count is 46!

Many on-line calculators that are designed to provide the number of days between two dates are not accurate. Some do not calculate countries over the International date line.

Your odds increase for a early extension if you have an emergency, with all the facts; go in less than the 45 day count and have a airline ticket in hand with the flight outside the country in a day or two.

I engaged an agent who obtained a extension of stay 9 weeks before the next 90 day exit on O visa. The Extension took effect on the day after the exit date.

Thank you everyone for your responses. biggrin.pngbiggrin.png
