Pay for gas with amex

Featured Replies

Hi there,

are all the major gas stations accept Amex for payment? i tried to call Esso customer service but they are closed on the weekend. I know many restaurants and independent shops do not accept amex. But i am hoping the major gas stations do. Please let me know if you know thanks.

Nick

I have typically found that most refuse Amex and so tend to use MasterCard or visa now as I got fed up with them taking my Amex, staring blankly at it when I asked if I could use it and then returning two mins later to confirm they didn't accept it.

PTT and Shell take AMEX. Never had a problem and never go to any other gas station.

thanks went to PTT all good :). thanks for the pointer about Shell so i know next time.

Thanks for all your responses.

If you have a Thai platinum Amex, you'll get 5x airmile points if you buy petrol at Shell.

I used my AMEX card in PTT-SHELL- ESSO and CALTEX station.......BUT..............Be aware that outside large cities or main roads/highways most those petrol stations will not accept AMEX even some of the smaller station in rural area accept only cash ( no Visa-MasterCard terminal)

For retails:

Tesco-Lotus and Big C accept AMEX and large retails store like Central or Robinson.

International Hotel chains and many retails stores in high end shopping center in Bangkok.

Private hospital chains also accept AMEX too. ( RAM in Chiangmai- Bangkok Hospital Chain- Bumrungrad etc...

Would depend on the station.

Quite a few of them will not accept Amex, simply too expensive for them. Same goes for many other smaller shops, Amex is much more expensive than other credit cards, so shops/banks really don't like it.
