I tip my hat to you, there is some CC farang boasting about living in Pattaya on 7k per month.

How long do you think the g/f is going to hang around, no wonder they have such phrases as farang kee nok.

Well, it is possible for a woman to love a man for reasons other than money--my second wife had to buy me out of debt and always earned more than I. Apparently, too many men have never had anything other than a financial relationship with a woman.

Was that in Thailand?

And were you twice her age?

If not, no comparison.

No, it was in Vietnam and she was Vietnamese and I was simply responding to rgs2001uk's comment about women not staying with a man without money.

Additionally, I do not see where Datebayo even mentioned a woman, let alone being twice her age. So, what are you comparing?

I don't believe it's possible for a Thai lady to love a foreign man twice her age without a financial incentive.

Vs

It might be possible for a lady of any nationality to love a male fellow national her own age.

Does that explain the comparison?

The OP obviously doesn't know that US$60,000 is chicken feed to posters on here. Not even worth investing.

yes it is (to use USA term) chump change, why bother? Is probably only 1 years expenses for most of us..why blow it only to be a paupers hoes again?

Wakey wakey hands of snakey and come back and ask when you have 10x the amount

only they will probably still have a go at you then.haha

You consider US$600k as worthy of investment? That's not even our maid's annual bonus.

I hear you! but i guess the has got to start somewhere!

To consider how excited he is about his latest huge windfall it is unlikely he will ever see 600k

if he ever does im sure the first thing he will do is book a trip to Dubaii to rub nobs with the rich and famous

On a serious note 2.0 million baht can defiantly be worth investing if you know what your doing. But the amount is low for a 3-5% annual return and would require a more aggressive approach. I invested about 300.000baht and now have increased that to a near 1.750.000baht in about 3.5 months because I know what I'm doing in that area. All legal but as anything can involve risks. My goal is to make this into 10 million before June next year. This is just a side project from my normal business. But as anything know your shit and you can make money!

OK Evolare you got my attention !! How did you turn 300k into 1.7m in 3.5 months? ...On a 'serious ' note...why did you only start with 300k??...

I'm guessing I have to pay for this secret? So please PM me your Swiss bank account details so that I may expedite the fee to you...

Like I said there is no magic or secret to what IM doing and not easily replicated. Back in sweden where I come from I have from many years bought and sold second hand cars as a second income to my normal business but been too careful to do it here as IM no expert of the Thai market but then my brother in laws work needed to sell of a few cars and first I bought 3 pickups from them at 100.000 baht per car that I fixed up (spent about 10-15000baht per car) and sold them to one person from nakhon pathom 320.000 (i advertised on olx.co.th) now I had 960.000 then I bought 2 cars on auction and the the three last pickups my brother in law business was selling off I sold the two cars and two of the pickups for 295.000 each (for the pickups). Now the other day I bought another car on auction and still have one of the pickups. So bottomline I have 1.7 million and 2 cars for sale. I only started with the 300.000 because it was what I had to pay for the first 3 pickups and I was willing to loose it.

Like I said I was lucky thanks that my brother in law had the contacts and sold fast and that gave me the courage to buy cars at auction and I will continue doing that now....know your shit and it can't be done.

The moral to this is investing your money can be done in different ways. I picked a field where I know what I'm doing. My dayjob is developing ecommerce systems with my own business and I do more than well with that. But many people say 2 million is not enough for anything I never listen to nay sayers and have started several business in the passed with Less money than that some failed some did real well I have even sold of two businesses I built before. If I listened to naysayers I would not be where I am today.

I also have shares and a capital insurance but that is something I have as a pension fund with a low risk and a low return on investment.

But with any kind of investment....know your shit no matter what it is.

I don't want money from anyone here I make my own money! And I'm not afraid of a little elbow grease!!

No, it does not. Your belief has little to do with reality without empirical evidence. You want beliefs, okay, here's mine.

Certainly, there are Thai women--and women from other countries--who want only the money. However, not all women, Thai or otherwise, are poor and/or are willing to sell their virtue for cash. I believe some women want romance, want a monogamous relationship, want a man who they can love and admire, want a man who is accomplished and respected, want a kindred soul, want a man who loves them only. Sometimes an older man can fill that bill when a younger man cannot or will not.

I'm interested in the world of investment, but have to be honest...I know nothing about it, but I'd like to learn.

Can anyone recommend a website or book where I could learn the (very) basics...preferably related to Thailand if that's even an issue.

If I had spare cash to invest, I would go for the safer option with lower returns. At least until I become an expert investor, of course. :-)

Try investopedia.com. Quite good.

Thai Stock market...property funds e.g.CPNRF, SPF, QHPF give 8% annual dividend.

Please do explain the benefits of stock dividends.

Honestly, I never liked the concept. Except the benefit that the SET doesn't have capital gains tax for us individual investors.

But the mathematical concept embezzles me. Giving me more shares, which makes my old shares worth less in value, then my end result with more shares is equivalent in value to my original shares. HUH?! what the... fruits facepalm.gif

I believe investing for steady long-term growth.

Most investors that try to pick a stock that will "double in 3 months" will loose half their money.

Don't put all you money into one thing.

Diversify your investment

no stock exchange anywhere applies capital gains tax if the shareholder is not a tax resident.

the advantage of the SET is that dividends are taxed with only a flat 10% tax whereas this tax is on average 25-35% in other countries.

I know Naam.

I mean "stock" dividend. Giving more shares instead of cash dividend.

I've always "understand" it to be us getting more shares, without really gaining any more value wise. If we had 1000 shares, and they gave another 100 shares, now we have 1100 shares but the earnings per share theoretically drops 10% due to the share increase of total shares, making each share worth less. So our new 1100 shares is the same as the old 1000 shares in value, technically. So where's the joy in that?

Incorrect. In Australia, the ATO will levy CGT on "taxable Australian property". Entities listed on the all ordinaries that hold those types of assets may be subject to CGT.

The dividend tax on the SET holding for a Farang is also 15 percent not 10 percent.

we did not discuss "entitities" but

if the shareholder is not a tax resident

and i don't think any entity is retired in Thailand and referred to in this thread. capital gains tax does also not apply to Australian shares held by non-resident foreigners.

however, i stand corrected on Thai dividend witholding tax.

Don't know about you, but my set dividends are always taxed 10%. And I'm a farang....

File a Thai tax return and reclaim it.

Can't... I'm one of the upper tax bracket. laugh.png

If you want to invest 2Million Baht there are a few thinks you should think about.

1) How long can i let the money be invested without having to use it.

2) How much risk am i willing to take ?

3) How much effort do you want to put in it ?

4) How much return do you want/expect to have ?

Once you have figured out these questions the answer will be more obvious to you.

But those losses are only fiat money, he still has the same amount of silver as before and each ounce of his silver is still able to purchase 2 litres of bad wine just as it could during the Roman empire.

Gold and Silver..real money

when was the last time you paid for any goods or services with gold?

In my case with silver when I foolishly spent some old silver 3d coins at the confectioners.
