Hello, I have gotten so much info from reading these forums, I figured I could get GREAT help from someone. I will be on Samui late september and I am looking for a fantastic place. I really like the bungalows, and one on a beautiful beach would make our trip. A/C, pools, etc would be icing on the cake. Any recommendations for Samui and or Phan Gan would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance, Justin.

Try www.baanpanburivillage.com in Phangan

Depends on what you are willing to pay per night. In the northren-eastern part of Samui (Choeng Mon Beach) is real romantic, and there's mostly couples on the beach, and not so crowded as Chaweng. I'd check the hotels (bungalows) there.

Try here: Baan Shadis Resort in the quieter Mae Nam north section of the island. 3 room villa's well kept, quiet, landscaped for privacy - can go around nud_e if so inclined in and around your villa. 2 Kilometers from the beach up a country soi. Check sawasdee dot com for pics and info

Koh Phangan only has a few really nice high end places (well, there are quite a few nice middle end places but the service is generally pretty bad).

Baan Panburi is nice, as is Panviman, but both are in Thong Nai Pan which is a fairly isolated beach, the road can be pretty bad and the taxis usually only run twice a day. So, if you wanted to get out and about more, then you might think twice about Thong Nai Pan. Haadrin has Phanganburi, which is on the quieter side of the peninsula, also pretty nice. As well as the Drop In Resort, kind of a highrise hotel kind of thing right in the heart of hadrin, heard the rooms and pool are nice but don't know how good it is.

Towards the middle end there is a far greater variety, but not sure if you wanted something nicer or not.

another option is Zazen in Bophut ... http://www.samuizazen.com/

good food, you can walk along the beach to the Bophut fishing village or just stay in your room (maybe then the garden view room will suffice).

Another option is Sala Samui on Choengmon beach ... http://www.salasamui.com/home.htm also has good food and walking along Choengmon beach .. has private villas suitable for honeymooners

or another one is sila evason .. http://www.sixsenses.com/hideaway-samui/index.php

no real beach but total seculsion...

Another one is Rocky Resort in Lamai... http://www.rockyresort.com/ .. smaller operation like Zazen, the beach is rocky (hence the name), but personal / freindly service slick operation, good food etc

I have never stayed in any of them (which is probably one of the reasons I am on my third marriage), and not linked to any of them in any way but I get a lot of customers (including many honeymoon couples) that talk about them and mostly very good reviews ...

Never ever stay at Rocky Resort.. I cant even tell you how brutal the owners there treat their staff, and they overcharge like crazy. I had such a bad experience there! PM me for more details if you like.

I would stick to Zazen or Salasamui, both beautiful properties and out of the way of the tourist spots. I would highly reccomend avoiding staying right in Chaweng, and if you do, have a back up plan if you arent happy. Its good fun for drinking and shopping, but so loud if you are trying to have a romantic time on your balcony. In the morning when they shift the trash from the side walks (if you can call the dangerous peices of cement a sidewalk) It stinks to high heavens. Not what you want over your champagne and OJ!

Just for your information, LOVESUN is a former employee of Rocky's. She and her husband got married with us in October last year. They loved the resort and he came to work with us as a chef in January of this year. After five months it became clear that he wasn't able to get the kitchen working.... our food cost was still too high, the staff were serving cold steaks to the guests and cold french fries, and unfortunately we had to let him go.

Clearly they're still upset, and it's unfortunate that they're posting negative reviews about the resort to get back at us. I was very sorry to let them go and have no bad feelings towards them, however I think that this misrepresenting our resort to get back at us is a real shame.
