We and the company I work don't pay any bribes. And never had any problems with it.

If someone obviously wants a bribe and stalls everything my wife just calls the superior (or actually as top as possible) and than everything turns out to be a misunderstanding.

My wife wouldn't hand over one satang for a bribe. In fact she always asks for a discount for any business dealing she has and that includes government and private sector dealings. Believe it or not she gets some sort of discount more times than not. She definitely has no shame when it comes to bartering the price down.
