See, it's not sleazyjet - or is it. Do you not have to stop off in some godforsaken airport in the freezing cold for about five hours. Somewhere in Siberia. Please take some woolie clothes with you. I was offered the Aeroflot flight once, ok going but coming back in March having to stay overnight somewhere in Russia.

No way, i went Air France. And that CDG airport was a nightmare. On my return flight i had one hour to get the connecting flight to Geneva. I and about 20 other people had to run to get to the gate. No time to even breath and have a cigarette. Patsy was not a happy bunny,

But i'm sure it was better than being stuck in Siberia!! I was home and smoking my cig an hour and a half later.

I won't fly with the Russians. Then i prefer Emirates or even Etihad so i can have a smoke after half the journey. They both have crappy airports though compared to Schiphol Amsterdam but the best airport for me is Changi Singapore.

Myself and my daughter will be taking the AMS route over the busy Christmas/New years period.

£20 pp easyjet flight to AMS from my local airport which is cheaper than the bus connection to LHR.

Stay overnight in Amsterdam.

Next day we come back briefly to Blighty as we fly AMS-LHR-HKG-BKK in business with British Airways.

Return flying BKK-HKG-LHR-(AMS) . However since we will only be travelling with cabin baggage we will simply hop off at LHR on the return trip.

The LHR-HKG return is on the new A380 which should be nice.

Price for myself and my daughter in return business was £1250 each. Adult price was £1393. (Children travel for less bringing the overall price for two down somewhat).

Funny thing is that the BA return price from LHR to BKK was around £1600 in economy...and that's if you could actually get the dates you wanted over the Christmas period.

In August I connected with easyjet to CDG and flew biz class to BKK with Qatar for around £1100 on a special companion fare deal.

I never fly direct from the UK any more due to the rip off taxes. Flying for one hour or so from my local airport to make my connection to a European airport is also preferable to a 2.5 hour motorway journey on the bus to LHR !

It's good to know that suffering a sleazyjet flight for about an hour, reduces the price. Before we did KLM to Schipol and then China.

Nowadays, Ethiad does a direct Geneva - Bangkok. Don't know the price, but for a friend and his wife and kids it's less hassle.

I love Amsterdam.. Been many times. Lots of food options and a great place to walk around. Downside is that a lot of the cheap hotels are filthy and bed bug ridden tourist traps.

Go for a walk around De Wallen. On Stoofsteeg, look for a window with a smurf hanging in it in the day time. Taps nose..

OP which airline did you book your single way ticket from AMS to BKK ??

Hey it is Aeroflot Russian Air,

Cheers

KLM operate the sector from Amsterdam to Moscow using a 737, the layover is short and the onward Aeroflot flight is on an A330. Flights are quiet with a better chance of an adjacent empty seat at this time of year.

Are you sure of that ?...

It could be convenient for a Ski trip but I couldn't find any direct flights on the Etihad Web Page.

KLM also do a premium seat for around £100 extra each way....the ones at the front sides of this are bulkhead with TONS of legroom....a cheap alternative to biz class.....this was very comfortable indeed.
