My Girlfriend applied for UK visit visa on 15th September, I have all my supporting documents including a my letter of support, letter of invitation from my mother and grandparents for accommodation, letter from my employer, p60, bank statements, pay slips, call log history between me and her, photos together, copy of passport with stamps from previous visits to Thailand. She has old passport showing trips to Finland to visit her then boyfriend, bank statements, her daughters details, bank statements, letter from employer showing proof of ownership with contact details but no letter confirming she will have a job when she gets back to Thailand...

Now for the tricky part, we had planned before I came to Thailand, that we would marry and also apply for a visit visa (the marriage is not to help the visa, I know it doesn't, it's just what we wanted to do) As I'm only here for three weeks (go home on 22nd Sept) getting both done and in any particular order has been difficult, we also had to get her a new passport (the old one expires in November), so we have only really had two weeks to sort everything. Anyway as it has happened, we sent the application on the 15th sept (had to send off as she wants me here when she goes for appointment), her appointment is on the 19th September, but we married today, the 18th September.

Do I add additional note on the application stating that after the application was sent we married (we did say in the application that we plan to marry, just not when) or do I not mention the marriage and let the application proceed as is?

I'm thinking that if we got married today and her appointment is tomorrow that the embassy plus application would not get this info because it was only a day before the appointment?

Sorry if i don't make sense....lots to think about, though we will have time to enjoy the that we married after tomorrow.

There are several points here.

1. You should do something, as the application now contains untrue information. For instance, your wife has declared that she is single. That is not fatal in the grand sense of things, but it certainly needs clarification if you go ahead and submit the application.

2. Whether you are here or not when your wife submits the application makes no difference. She must submit the application alone, and you will not be allowed to accompany her inside (except in exceptional circumstances. It is not an interview for a visa, just an application process. VFS are merely the agency that deals with processing the applications, and they then send them to the Embassy for an ECO to decide the application.

3. In view of the above, I would cancel the appointment, and the application, and prepare and submit a completely new application. You might be lucky and get an appointment slot for tomorrow anyway. If not, let your wife submit her application after you have gone.

Cheers Tony, I do think it's best if I cancel the appointment. Could you guide me in how to do this? And can I cancel now as it is 6pm? Can I resubmit a new application tonight if I cancel and get an appointment tomorrow?

You will need to go to your application page, and the "View Appointment" page. You should be able to cancel, even at this late stage. You can submit a new application, but :

1. You won't know if there are any available appointments until you submit the new application.

2. You will need to pay a new fee, and try to obtain a refund for the old fee ( that takes time).

Alternatively, keep the appointment tomorrow, and the current application. You cannot amend the online form that has been submitted, but you can make some manual amendments to the hard copy (get your wife to initial each change). There are some amendments that you cannot make. For instance, the form asked the applicant for her marital status. She would have put " single". If she had put "married", then the next question on the form is " Is your spouse traveling with you ?" That question obviously will not appear on your form. In addition, you will need to provide a covering letter that fully explains everything that has changed since the application was submitted online 5 days ago.
