Photos of Election Commissioner Somchai Srisuthiyakorn visiting museums in Scotland have been widely circulated on social media, drawing outrage from critics of the EC who say the photos are proof that Mr. Somchai was blatantly wasting the state budget on personal leisure.

BANGKOK — The secretary-general of Thailand's Election Commission has defended the group's ten-day trip to Scotland, calling it an opportunity to learn about "improving the election procedure" in Thailand.

5-day New Year holiday period proposed

BANGKOK: -- The Tourism Council of Thailand recommends the government declare December 31-January 4 as the New Year holiday period, to boost spending.

Piyaman Techapaiboon, president of the council, said after a discussion with Tourism Minister Kobkarn Wattanavrangku today that earlier announcement would facilitate travel planning.

The private sector also proposed the roadmap to achieve the annual tourism revenue target of Bt4 trillion in 2018.

Police still fail to pinpoint suspects

KOH TAO: -- Desperate police Monday failed again to pin point any suspects to link them with death of two Britons as DNA test 30 out of 64 samples collected mostly from migrants in Koh Tao did not match any found on the bodies of the victims.

Prayuth orders police to speed up probe into Koh Tao murders

KOH TAO: -- Government spokesman Yongyuth Mayalap said Monday that the premier had ordered police and authorities to speed up investigation and bring the culprits to justice.

Officials at the island, plus business owners and provincial authorities were told to help provide advice on safety issues to tourists, the spokesman said.
