I'm finding a lot of good deals from KUL to SLC.

One of them is 21,000 baht.

And it goes through Vancouver, which is much better than LAX or DFW or JFK or LAX.

It also says it's Cathay Pacific, operated by Malaysian Airlines.

Now, I'm all for saving a buck, and the baggage allowance is generous, but ….

Would anyone book on Malaysian nowadays?

Is the quality as good as Cathay, which is very, very good?

I haven't done a long haul MH flight in at least 5 years but fly CX regularly. But I remember, at that time, MH flights had service and comfort that equaled or exceeded CX (comparing only economy tickets).

But if you're worried about a worldwide conspiracy against MH then I would choose another carrier.

Hi, for starters, do you mean MALAYSIA Airlines or, a MALAYSIAN Airline? Not being silly, just that MH or MALAYSIA Airlines (which has had a couple of problems recently) could be Code-Sharing ...that is operating a joint flight with Cathay Pacific. Alternatively Cathay Pacific may be code sharing with another Malaysian Carrier...possibly Air Asia?

Either way, find out which carrier is supplying the aircraft... if it is Cathay Pacific, I wouldn't be at all worried.

The OP said "It also says it's Cathay Pacific, operated by Malaysian Airlines" so it's obviously MH aircraft. Air Asia certainly is not flying to SLC!

Have always been happy with them, and would book them again without hesitating.

Thanks everyone.

Yeah. This should mean that Malaysia Airlines, who is a code share partner with Cathay, is supplying the crew and aircraft.

So, forgetting the problems they have had recently with keeping aircraft in the air, is the level of service (leg room, comfort, food, courtesy) about comparable to Cathay? I refuse to fly on a cattle car American airline, like American or United.

I looked on Skytrax, and every category is labeled "under review."

For your comfort factor, go to seatguru.com and compare the seats on the CX aircraft you like to the seats on the MH flight.

As for food, courtesy, etc, imho, MH is equal or better.

This flight will be operated by MH and sold by CX. Both are part of the same allance: OneWorld

CX is my airline of choice within OneWorld. I fly a lot in Asia and between Asia and Europe with CX.

In terms of service:

MH is OK

CX is way better, especially when you fly Business Class (Regional or Long Haul).

They just don't play in the same Tier

In terms of airports:

KUL: security issues (cf. previous incident)

HKG: one of the best airports wordlwide.

Financially MH is in deep troubles, plse read the latest news.

OK, it's much cheaper... your call!

Just my 2 cents
