New 10 baht 'Service Fee' at Vientiane Consulate

Featured Replies

The Thai Consulate in Vientiane is now charging a 'service fee' of 10 baht when paying for a visa. A hand written receipt is attached to the printed visa receipt. The fee is the same for all visa classes and has to be paid in baht only. Having a 10 baht coin ready for the payment will reduce waiting time. Yesterday, Thursday 2/10/14, the queue for payments was still long at 2.00pm, after the passport collections had started. I am not sure if this was anything to do with the new 'fee' collection but I have never seen that situation at Vientiane before.

I repeat this to myself every day "must pay more fees. smile, pay fees." Then, in a year, when it's 100 baht, I will smile and pay. conditioned.

I can't wait for the 10 baht question fee. 10 baht sitting fee. 10 baht smiling fee.

That 10 Baht fee is charged by Kreung Thai Bank which has opened a "window" at the consulate to take visa fees. The consulate is no longer accepting direct payments as of the 1st of October. There are notices about it stuck up around the consulate.
