The intersection by Central Festival Phuket faces road closures. Photo Google Maps.

PHUKET: -- The northbound lane above the underpass by Central Festival Phuket will be closed for 15 days from today (October 6) so workers can resurface the road.

Between October 6 – 20, drivers will be unable to make a left turn from Vichitsongkarm Rd on to Chalermprakiat Ror IX (bypass) Rd, or right from Darasamut school to Central Festival.

Samak Luadwonghad, Phuket Highways Office Director told The Phuket News this morning, “We are resurfacing the road because it is very uneven and bumpy, so we need to make it safe for drivers.

“All vehicles turning from Vichitsongkarm Rd on to Chalermprakiat Ror IX Rd will be diverted onto Bangyai Rd (behind Big C). If a driver is coming from Phuket Town and heading towards the bypass rd, they will have to go straight at the intersection and turn right onto Bangyai Rd. From Kathu, drivers will need to make a left turn onto Bangyai Rd,” he explained.

“The project will take around 15 days to complete,” he noted. Officials then plan to close the southbound lane to resurface that section as well.

“If you plan on using this route everyday, I would advise you to allow at least 30 minutes in case of severe traffic during this period.” he stated.

How is how it has been for several weeks.

Be prepared to be stuck in Big C car park for 30+ minutes while traffic along Bang Yai road refuses to let you out or anyone else in.

Big C should take care of that. I suggest they give one of their staff a new nice shiny big whistle.

I made a left turn there just the other day. While they are at it should take a look at the huge potholes appearing on the bypass road just after Lotus intersection heading north, on the bypass road itself & heading south form the Lotus intersection.

Bypass road this morning.

That is more than a pothole. Seems like road building contracts, doled out amongst the old boys network, are designed to be built sub standard so it is not too long to wait for another contract.
